Preparing for Camp — Natasha Luepke Now that cooking camp is over, I have time to write about it!

Two weeks ago, I taught a historical cooking camp for teens. I have finally recovered enough to write about it. #food #history #historicalrecipes #historicalcooking

Alright, well that's almost the baking done for today. A 1914 Rough Robin Loaf Cake, a Cake Pudding from 1853, and I'm just about to put a batch of Fruit Muffin Cakes, from a 1777 recipe, into the oven. 😁 #HistoricalCooking #HistoricalRecipes

I've gone down the rabbit hole while researching U.S. First Ladies and cookie recipes. It's all so interesting, and now I'm compiling a bio, a quote, and a cookie recipe for each. It's not as easy... If you know of a quote from First Lady Elizabeth Monroe, help!

Mousse For Valentine or Washington's Birthday - HISTORICAL FOODWAYS A couple of years ago I was at a food history conference (they DO happen!) and one of the attendants gave me a neat little stack of papers, sandwiched between two layers of cardboard...

Seven years ago I published a recipe from a (mostly) manuscript recipe bundle I was gifted at conference. It's for something called "Mousse for Valentine or Washington's Birthday." It's Washington's birthday today, so here is a link.

Macaroni Crème Gratin aux Truffes: Auguste Escoffier’s Truffled Mac and Cheese After going down the truffled turkey rabbit hole, I realized I certainly can’t afford to make it – and I don’t suppose any of you want to crowdfund that experiment – but it did pique my interest.

I couldn’t get out of the truffled turkey rabbit hole without making something with truffles, but who can afford to make a truffled turkey in this truffle market and in this economy?!?!?
So I made truffled mac and cheese, Escoffier-style, instead.
