What's so sweet here is that Tommy clearly took the time to consider and ask what she wanted to do, and she earnestly (and I think probably authentically!) wanted to go spend time on the lake with Tommy in the boat his dad gave him. She WANTS to be here, but Tommy only wanted her to be here with him if SHE wanted to be here with him. He's a GOOD dude!
Tommy, ever low-status, says that sailing on the lake is pretty fun, "If we had some wind..."
HA! This veers a little into Adam Sandler, making-fun-of-fat people territory, but I'd argue that because Michelle doesn't think less of Tommy for doing this to the boat they're on, the film doesn't, either. But you need this, which is okay to laugh at, I think, because it sets up a HILARIOUS moment for Michelle, in which she again swoops to Tommy's rescue, when he needs it...
