Town officials said the officers "employed the safest available method under the circumstances to euthanize the animal and eliminate the threat." Officials did not specify what method was used. One neighbor told NewsCenter 5 the officers ran over the raccoon and that multiple children witnessed it. "I guess he decided to do what he did and drove over the racoon and then he went backwards and then the racoon was, like, seizing almost so then he went over it again because it wasn’t dead at that point and you could see it, he was like, moving around," said the neighbor. The deceased raccoon was moved to the side of the roadway to be picked up by animal control.
On Christmas, #Hopedale, Mass. police killed a raccoon they believed to be rabid by driving over it multiple times in front of a crowd of onlookers that included children.
