Hi there, #HorrorWriterChat! I’m A.C. and I write all sorts of horror, mostly kinda fun stuff. And I love a good SAW trap.

I'm Tristan, I write a lot of different horror, but mostly monster horror (I do have an action horror in the works though!) My favorite action horror might be Aliens, but it is a tough pick. There are some strong contenders out there.

For promo, I'll go with A Survivor's Eye;

3 survivors of a slasher find themselves haunted by the night they survived. The ghost of their past that threatens to consume their future.

I really like to play with the notion that a world full of creatures outside our knowledge and understanding exists but ultimately humans are the real monsters.

I lean into folk lore and superstition along the way, too

Well as it popped up in the chat, I'll promote my 99p short story;

The diary of a man bitten by a zombie and documenting his final days of humanity as his body succumbs to the walking death..

I'd like to say that suffering makes my characters more compassionate and more empathetic #HorrorWriterChat, but that's not true for all of them. Some good characters become dark. Others become even darker and colder than they were before. Growth is a luxury not available to everyone. Plot decides

#HorrorWriterChat Q3

A dream that made it into a WIP was one where I saw something sticking out from under my nail. I ended up pulling my finger open to find I was infested with moths. The thing sticking out from under my nail had been an antenna.

I woke calmly and said, “that’s going in a book.”

And yes, this is in a way a German-language version of the #Horrorwriterchat.

Thank you so much to @chaoticauthor.online and @erynmccee.bsky.social , who were so generous with advice and support already!

Spring of 2021 was when I began writing a labour of love: #ChildrenOfAbel. I finished the 1st draft in August of 2024, all of it handwritten.

To see it now—ready to be released to the world—it’s been quite the journey.

#HorrorWriterChat My latest release, "The Boy From Limbo" is a short story about a haunted daycare. The daycare used to be a hospital wing and the ghost of a boy talks to the kids through an inactive call button in the TV room.

there is no algorithm here, so visibility depends on engagement with others.
hit the questions, use the hashtag, share other writer’s stuff.
finally, have you got something to shout about? Now’s your chance.

Here we go, #HorrorWriterChat, the chance you've all been waiting for. Let's pimp our books.
And if you could share others, get them seen as well, that would be good.
Finally, I would love it if you could repost some of Matt's posts. He's having a rough time and could do with a boost.
Tanks.

In my stories, human beings can be much more terrifying than the supernatural ones #HorrorWriterChat The supernatural only wants to eat....

Well, Dr Heather Thompson's age is somewhere between 40s and 50s and is a therapist so maybe fits that with the mentor type? But otherwise I'd say the mum in A Mother's Porcelain is early 40s (going by the actress I had on my head) and she is definitely not a wise mentor! 😅 #HorrorWriterChat

J.R. Blanes, author of Portraits of Decay, hailing from Chicago, and any black magic curses from the Louisiana bayou frightens me. Those witches in New Orleans know what they’re doing. #horrorwriterchat

#Horrorwriterchat Q3: Both appeal to me, but I think my own work tends to focus on more old school stuff (just because of when I grew up and what I'm comfortable with). That said, my horror comedy definitely combines both (the island the MC is trapped on feels very frozen in time, technologically

#HorrorWriterChat Q3:

I think there is fear in both, but like most authors I dip into old tech more often. I think it's a mix of nostalgia and a sense of loss that drives it. New tech can be scary because we don't understand it, but old tech is scary because it is dead and gone, like we will be.

I don't know if I will make it to #horrorwriterchat today. I have a class at the same time. Have fun, Halloween Peeps!

AITA for drinking my date?

I, a youngish 300 years old, male have a--I dunno, maybe 20-year-old human woman? It's hard to tell with their kind--who definitely said that she was into vampires when she invited me in. Now she's screaming that she didn't mean "for real." #HorrorWriterChat

Ohh, good question. I think either the Black Death because ~aesthetic~ or ancient Egypt because Anubis trying to solve horror mysteries? Yes, please.

WWI. Screw Rome and WWII, this dad is horrified by trench warfare, the chemical warfare, the first aerial combat, the poor animals…

I like retro-futurism, so I would go with the eras from the 70's to the early 2000's. The early 2000's have a lot of horror potential politically and also on the internet. I'm afraid of going on a rant about it all and I don't have a big enough character limit lol
