I ususally go just a light blush with my time period short stories. Just enough to be accuate without overwhelming the reader. I also love going to other way and creating my own version of the past beause you can really inject some terror into those ideas. #HorrrorWritersChat

On National Hugging Day, no one knew where Dave had gone. He wasn’t much of a hugger, so no one thought much of it at work, maybe he was just hiding out. But for Dave, Dave was somewhere beyond gravity, beyond atmosphere. The hugs were anchors, keeping us grounded…
No one expected the freebies handed out for National Granola Bar Day contained anything other than granola in them; it was the last mistake they would all make...
As a result, the day is now in remembrance of the millions felled by bad granola...

Had to think a bit, but the first urban myth that made me lose sleep was that of "Casa Betania", an abandoned nunnery in my hometown that was allegedly haunted. Solid makeout spot, tho.
I like Mothman. Maybe give him a family, Mothwoman and Mothkids. Maybe make one of the Mothkids go rogue. There's something here, isn't there?

That scratching. Where is it coming from? I scout across my room, following its trace.
Nothing outside my room.
Closet? No.
I’m about to check the bathroom when the scratching amplifies. I jump back. The wallpaper flickers.

Q3: there's a scene where 77 takes a special drug that enhances his post-cognitive superpowers and has to be aided by a trans masc occultist to navigate the powerful psychic onslaught. Navigating that along with his ADHD was incredibly harrowing and cathartic for me.
