I cry more now than when I was young, thinking about my 4 friends killed in #VietNam. They didn't live long enough to get the love they so deserved. Photography. A black and white photo of a (then 19-year-old) American soldier. He wears the handwritten slogan "WAR IS HELL" on his helmet. The handsome soldier in the close-up is called Larry Wayne Chaffin, he has a gentle smile on his face and is looking into the camera. He belonged to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Battalion and was later identified when the photo became world famous. He died in 1985 at the age of 39, presumably from the late effects of chemical weapons (Agent Orange). Info: Horst Faas (1933 - 2012) was a German photographer and war correspondent. He became famous for his reports from Vietnam from 1962 to 1974, i.e. during the Vietnam War. He received several awards for this work, including the Pulitzer Prize in 1965.
