Last week the six-monthly #HS2 update to Parliament was published. There were three notable things in it: the Mark Wild reset plan was being delayed, they were considering making the trains run slower and HS2 has been badly mismanaged.

I'm quite pleased with my latest feature in @railmagazine.bsky.social which provides details of the complex #HS2 approach tunnels leading to Euston. Issue 1058 is available now!
Highway engineers and heavy plant machinery on the A38. Metal fences in the foreground.
Nicer for my #GettingFit this week because the A38 is shut for #HS2 work - which means the slip roads are shut - which means very little traffic on our main road - apart from the arrogant drivers who think the ROAD CLOSED signs don’t apply to them.
*Much* quieter because of the road closure too...

The last video of what turned out to be a 3 part mini series drops at 14:00. The video provides details of the #HS2 section from the Victoria Road Crossover Box to Euston Tunnel. Which means it's taken 3 videos just to cover the final 9km long section of HS2 to Euston station!

An image of Heidi Alexander holding up a Great British Railways liveried IET, with AnyTransport logo in the top left. A title saying "HS2 could run 16% slower than planned to save money" and a description saying "Reducing the controversial high-speed rail's top speed from its planned 360kph (223mph) could save "billions and bring the railway into service sooner," Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said."

Essentially, despite being 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 behind schedule and 𝟭𝟬𝟬'𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 over budget, it seems they've now realised they've 𝗡𝗢𝗧 got anywhere in the 𝗨𝗞 to test the fast trains!! 🤣 #HS2

"New #HS2 farce as trains to be made slower and even more expensive"
A farce which is a direct result of constant government interference!

Having said that if opening at 300-320km/h results in #HS2 opening sooner than I'm not against it. What has frustrated me is the usual poor reporting by the media and people's over reaction to what is a non story. 9/9
Then there's design speed. Which takes into account bridges, tunnels, track, systems and of course trains. For #HS2, that is a maximum of 360km/h. 4/9
The saving money claim I'll get to in a minute. But it's first important to understand the difference between alignment speed, which is the theoretical maximum speed that could be achieved based on the curve radii on the route, which in the case of #HS2 is 400km/h 3/9
#HS2 is 'TOO SLOW' now? The short answer is no. But it is ironic to see people on social media getting very angry at recent media reports, after years of people saying that HS2 is 'too fast'. As ever there's more to this so I thought I'd try to explain. 1/9
#HS2 has been designed to allow trains to run at up to 360km/h. The UK's HS1 operates at up to 300km/h, so limiting the speed of HS2 to 300km/h, in order to save money, makes sense, especially as England needs more rail capacity, not higher speeds.
CEO of HS2 Ltd, Mark Wild, will investigate areas where costs can be saved before compiling a report to be submitted to the Transport Treasury during the summer. www.railadvent.co.uk/2026/03/hs2-tasked-with-... #birmingham #hs2

#HS2 is the biggest FAILURE and *RIP-OFF* of #BritishTaxpayers..since ..🤔 EVERY #Privatisation of #PublicServices..ever!🤬
We are literally being SCAMMED right, left and centre..by the #Political and #Corporate-class!🤑
The real question is why #HS2 doesn't follow the line of the M40. Local Tories promised in 2010 to change the route. They didn't.

Only in England could this utter shitshow happen...
Look another Ferry Story ? 😂
HS2 has been vastly over budget , has been cut short , now they can’t afford to test the HS trains .
If only this was a SNP story.

Why was #HS2 designed, at massive expensive, to run at 224mph, anyway?
Surely, with less than 120 miles to run between London and Birmingham, it can hardly run at full speed for long before it needs to apply the brakes?
not so 'high speed' then? lol #HS2

#HS2 trains will use less energy travelling at 360kph than a Class 373 travelling at just 300kph due significant to efficiency and weight improvements since the Eurostar units were built. 2/5
