5/5 while training for my 1st marathon (@ 50), I realized the x-over btwn endurance training and autoimmunity was inflammation. I’ve been solving for that variable. Nutrient needs can double—your ability to keep ahead is the game

3/? most rewarding 🏅 was my colorectal surgeon found zero adhesions (bands of scar tissue btwn abdominal & organ tissue)—a huge win as this was the first time in 25 procedures—owing to my training, nutrition, and recovery work #Training #Crohns #IBD #Ostomy #IBDAthlete #Run
2/? the upside of training for surgery- resilience and recovery ability goes way ⬆️ I was able to avoid a 3️⃣ rd surgery while in the hospital because my abdominal and fascia were so well developed from strength & mobility work along with the 20-30 mile a week running #Training #IBDAthlete #IBD #Run
Looking out of a fourth floor window over the rooftops and through the trees to a cresting sun with the Monterey Bay in the background
8 days in the hospital, 2 abdominal surgeries, a partially collapsed lung, 2
vasovagal crashes, the last of which happened on the endless stair climb to our place, but I got to wake up to this sunrise view of the Monterey Bay #Crohns #IBDAthlete
Sunset from Asilomar
Me and my wife staring out into the sunsetting on the ocean with a warm glow on our face
You only get one of these a day and it was an exceptional specimen today.

Yesterday was my last run (I did 5+ miles) mentoring the crew for the Big Sur Marathon. My training has been for abdominal surgery next Friday. It’s been an amazing 11-weeks and we topped it off w/a climb to the pink bike and found a T-Rex!

Strava image of my workout showing Anthony Mackie and Alex Toussaint
An atmospheric river shifted my training from a strides run to a strength + core workout and a hard ride. It was super fun to workout with Anthony Mackie—And I’m stoked for #BraveNewWorld

Monterey Rec trail in the storm with the cameraman and reporter filming the weather
Out for 10k + strides in gale force winds and saw the KION team filming the storm near Lover’s Point. I got some funny looks running past in the storm

I started my training plan with an easy 7k and leg/hip strength session, took down all the Christmas decorations, and roasted coffee for the week, but my true victory for today was remembering the wool dryer balls for my laundry. #StaticFree #IBDAthlete #Coros #Pace3

Me hooked up to an iv for Remicade
It was a difficult road to my #remicade infusion today because Stanford and Blue Shield can’t agree on a contract for just my care + I had to sign a PAFR. If this is how things are now, wait for healthcare regression coming soon #CrohnsLife #Crohns #IBDAthlete
