A stunning close-up of IC 1871, a section of the Soul Nebula within the Perseus spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy. The image showcases dark dust clouds contrasted by bright, glowing gas, highlighting a region of triggered star formation approximately 6,500 light-years away. The colors mimic the popular Hubble palette often used for depicting star-forming regions.

A breathtaking close-up of IC 1871, a section of the Soul Nebula within the Perseus spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. Dark dust clouds contrast sharply with bright, glowing gas, showcasing the beauty of triggered star formation within this 25 light-year-wide region, approximately 6,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. The image uses a color palette reminiscent of Hubble Space Telescope imagery.

A stunning three-color image showcasing the Heart Nebula (IC 1805) and the Soul Nebula (IC 1871) in Cassiopeia. The Heart Nebula, resembling a classic heart shape, is vibrant in red hues from energized hydrogen, complemented by yellow (sulfur) and blue (oxygen) light emissions. The Soul Nebula sits above, a cosmic companion in a similar color palette. Both nebulae are home to young star clusters, visible against a backdrop of countless stars. Light from these nebulas, spanning roughly 300 light-years, takes 6,000 years to reach Earth.

Yet another #astrophoto from Oct '23. #IC1871, The Rift in the #Soul #Nebula. This image represents my first attempt at splitting the Ha & Oiii bands taken with a OSC camera and dual band filter, then re-compositing them.
