I just dug though some old computer files and realized that I forgot to process my Heart Nebula data from 2023. I’m so glad that I uncovered this long-forgotten data since the details are pretty darn sharp!

Wide-field monochrome H-alpha astrophotography image showing a dense star field across Perseus, Auriga, and Taurus. Bright emission nebulae are visible, including the California Nebula (NGC 1499), Heart and Soul region, Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405), and surrounding faint hydrogen clouds against a grainy stellar background.
More experimenting with some widefield H-alpha. Samyang 14mm f/2.4 XP at f/3.5 on ASI294MM, ZWO filters. No calibration frames, FastIntegration.

Red clouds swirl in the dark expanse of space, forming the shape of a heart. Thousands of stars shine with equal intensity, floating in the vast emptiness of the cosmos.
Mohammed Abdallah in the seaport city of Suez in northeastern Egypt captured this image of the #Heartnebula in a Bortle 8 sky ... that's a city sky. Good job, Mohammed! Thank you. With #love to all from the EarthSky team on this December #solstice 2025! ❤️

A processed image of the Heart Nebula. The exterior outline of the nebula is a nice shade of red. The chambers of the nebula are darker representing the different type of gas present. Nice shaded gases around the outside and top part of the nebula.

Starless image of the heart nebula in SHO narrowband.
This is the Heart Nebula, a star-forming region 7,500 light-years away and over 300 light-years wide. The colors reveal ionized gases energized by a cluster of large young stars at its core. This represents 99 hours of data gathered by my remote observatory.

More commonly known as IC1805, the Heart Nebula strikes more than a passing resemblance to a recognizable Valentine's Day symbol. At the center of the nebula, an open cluster of stars emanates radiation that ionizes nearby Hydrogen gas, causing it to glow a deep red. This narrowband image is presented in the HOO color palette to emphasize the color red. Heart Nebula
Just as I started getting the hang of Astrophotography summer came along so, not having the desire to sit up all night on a school day, the telescope has been put away until autumn. Here’s a throw back to April and the 7,500 light years away Heart Nebula.

A stunning image of the Heart Nebula (IC 1805) and the Soul Nebula in Cassiopeia. These emission nebulas, glowing red from energized hydrogen, are home to several young open star clusters. The image shows the vibrant colors and intricate details of these celestial objects, located approximately 6,000 light-years away and spanning 300 light-years. The nebulas' structures resemble a heart and soul, hence their nicknames.

Infrared image of the "Mountains of Creation" in the W5 Nebula (IC 1848), located in Cassiopeia. This Spitzer Space Telescope image shows interstellar clouds of gas and dust where newborn stars are forming, sculpted by the winds and radiation of a massive nearby star. These clouds are about 10 times larger than the Pillars of Creation in M16.
