Infrared image of the "Mountains of Creation" in the W5 Nebula (IC 1848), located in Cassiopeia.  This Spitzer Space Telescope image shows interstellar clouds of gas and dust where newborn stars are forming, sculpted by the winds and radiation of a massive nearby star.  These clouds are about 10 times larger than the Pillars of Creation in M16.

The image shows massive stars at the center triggering the formation of younger stars at the edges, with pillars of gas slowly evaporating.  This image was captured by NASA's WISE satellite and spans approximately 2,000 light-years.
