Isn’t ongoing dependency on fossil fuels the overwhelming reason for threats to environment, security AND efficiency/affordability? I can’t see why continued dependence, through CCS etc, helps mitigate this risk. #iew25

It's great to see METI's 7th Strategic Energy Plan for Japan, but 60-70% nuclear+renewables in 2040 in electricity seems low.

30-40% non-nuclear thermal generation (fossil gas + CCS, e-hydrogen, e-ammonia) is going to be expensive.

Rousing keynote speech from @dianaurge.bsky.social at #IEW25, calling for disruptive change in energy modelling - from depicting single technology solutions to whole systems transformations - urban, buildings, materials, mobility systems.

I’m in Nara, Japan for the next week, participating in the IEA-ETSAP and International Energy Workshops.

I’ll be sharing my experience of using energy systems modelling to support Irish policy in the pursuit of rapid decarbonisation.
