2️⃣ Contesting borders—critically & kindly.
One moment: a delegate challenged my use of “sounding American.” She said, “You mean from the USA?” 🌎
A powerful reminder that language reflects power, and ISCHP gave space to unpack this together.
#ISCHP2025
1️⃣ How far we’ve come—and how far we need to go.
I was in awe of the critical work on abortion, Indigenous rights, LGBTQIA+ health, & more. Psychology was used to liberate—not just observe.
But we must still do better at centering lived experiences.
#ISCHP2025
Attending my first ever @ischp.bsky.social conference #ISCHP2025 @uniofgalway.bsky.social was unforgettable.
It was an academic, emotional, and personal experience that made me reflect deeply on psychology, justice, and community.

Concluding slide from talk on Oluwatoyin Bewaji's work on discourses around black women, authenticity, curvy ideals & body work on YouTube at #ISCHP2025: - Discursive duality simultaneously represents the Black curvy body both a source of natural, authentic identity and a demanding expectation requiring significant 'work'. - Urgent need for academic attention to shift away from Eurocentric beauty ideals and toward an intersectional understanding that prioritises health & acknowledges the complex interplay of race, gender, and historical oppression. - Critical importance of recognising the potential health consequences associated with bodywork and reshaping even when framed as "natural" or empowering.
