YYYY/MM/DD How many errors can be traced back to the fact Americans keep using YYYY/DD/MM while the rest of us use the far more sensible and logical YYYY/MM/DD? ISO 8601 FTW.

I use ISO-8601 dates, the metric system, and 24-hour time whenever I can. Canada’s mash-up of systems drives me nuts, but when a standard is clearly better, we should use it. Especially when the biggest holdout is an outlier — and increasingly hostile. www.torontomike.com/2026/02/iso-... #ISO8601

π Happy ordinal pi day! (314th day of the year)

No, it should not be the US-centric March 14th, which most of the world writes as 14/3 or 14-3.

Banks: Use a year-month-day in statement filenames so they sort properly. Filenames in this format do not sort properly 16-03-2024-17-04-2024.pdf which is very annoying.

One could even imagine an International Lunar Calendar as part of #ISO8601 that agnostically, secularly unified East-Asian, Islamic, Jewish and Christian traditions. The date of Easter would then need to satisfy one condition in each of this ILC, the usual Month Calendar and the ISO Week Calendar.

I HATE DATES. Is this March/12? or December/3?

The dot '.' is an ordinal suffix.
The slash '/' is a hierarchic separator.
The hyphen '-' is a neutral separator or connector.

Therefore, DD.MM.CCYY and CCYY/MM/DD are reasonable numeric date notations, as is #ISO8601 CCYY-MM-DD. When dropping the year, the same applies: DD.MM., MM/DD, [-]MM-DD.
