This hike was quite a few years ago but I remember it as the best hike I’ve ever done. There was no snow in the village of Kettlewell in the valley but we could see some on the hills. As we walked it became deeper and deeper. What was really special was the light which changed every few seconds. You can see in my photo the sun has broken through and there are areas illuminated on the opposite hills. Sometimes the clouds disappeared and we were bathed in light and then shortly after the sky was covered in dark clouds.
“Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow
In the bleak, midwinter, long ago” by English poet Christina Rossetti.
My photo is from a hike in Wharfedale.
