Clozapine and infection risk: new evidence from Hong Kong’s 20-year cohort study 🧵
This study of 11,000+ patients found clozapine users had a 25% higher risk of infections compared to those on olanzapine, with older adults most vulnerable.

It's shocking: many people enter hospitals with one illness and leave with another. 🏥 Hospital-acquired infections are a huge, costly problem. But research from LTH Lund, in Sweden points to a clear solution! #HealthcareReform #InfectionRisk
Effective prevention strategies include:
- Eliminating standing water to reduce breeding sites
- Using window screens & treated bed nets
- Applying EPA-approved repellents like DEET or Picaridin #InfectionRisk #MosquitoBorneDiseases

Al Haddrell @ukhadds2h Replying to @CaliforniaCodes At CO2 of 500ppm, the virus naturally decays ~98% in 40 mins. Meaning, after an hour >99% is inactivated. If the CO2 is 500 as well, that means the space is well ventilated, so the virus carrying aerosol is also removed. The combination dramatically lowers the risk. 1 174 192 Al Haddrell @ukhadds2h Replying to @ukhadds and @CaliforniaCodes Because CO2 affects both the decay rate and physical removal of the aerosol, the relationship between CO2 and risk is non-linear. 1 4 39 Christophe Veltsos @DrInfoSec. 59m Replying to @ukhadds and @CaliforniaCodes Al, can you clarify what you mean when you say non-linear? Is the risk relationship (WRT CO2) exponential? Asking as the first time I read the tweet, I kept going, then reread & realized, oh, wow, CO2 relates to risk via two important dimensions (ventilation & decay). 8
Al Haddrell @ukhadds Replying to @DrInfoSec and @CaliforniaCodes Exactly! 1) CO2 correlates with aerosol production. Less so when people talk (latest paper). 2) CO2 concentration informs on ventilation/exhaled aerosol still in the space. 3) CO2 affects decay rate. As CO2 goes up, multiple processes are affected (hence non-linear).
