Depiction of brownskinned woman dressed in flowers and plants, lying among the ruins of a rich house with trees, forest and sun in the background. It's finaly finished! This piece has quite a long history. I first came with the idea of making it in January, when I was painting my fan art of Varda Elbereth. As I was working on it, I was listening to a song of Belarusian musician Dziwia titled "Flower Maiden". From it I got the idea of creating an artwork of woman dressed in flowers. The idea evolved in time as I decided that I would like to practice drawing people of different ethnicities. After that I was wondering about the background and what should I put in there to make it interesting to look at. I chose to depict a ruin of some rich house and trees (yes I draw a lot of trees, but I like them). The goal was to convey a message about how nature, will conquer everything and to give it a subtly magical feel. That's why in the background a spring cherry blossom is accompanied by autumnal trees. The Lady herself represents nature and have the ability to make it grow as she wills it. Originally I've got the ambitious plan to include many species of flowers/plants from different regions and to mix architectonical styles a bit, but that would require a lot of references and time, so I partially dropped this idea. Instead I chose to adorn ruined wall with the 'medieval' style paintings and to add a toppled greek like column. There are some things that could be better like a window for example, but overall I'm quite proud of this piece. Besides this artwork may be considered my tribute to warm weather; spring, summer and gentle autumn. I'm not a fan of cold and even though the winter has barely begun I already want it gone. So I'm waiting for spring and for flowers to bloom.

"The Well Below the Valley" is an Irish variant of medieval murder ballad called "The Maid and the Palmer", which was published in several anthologies including the famous "Child Ballads". It is speculated that the song was inspired by the story of the woman at the well from the Bible. Due to its dark subject matter (infaticide and incest), it was considered unlucky by folk singers, who didn't want to perform it. The ballad was presumed to be lost in oral tradition in all British Isles. However in the sixties it was discovered, that some irish tinkerers still sung it . The Irish band Planxty popularised this ballad under the name it is known today, and since then it was covered by many artists. Despite the disturbing lyrics I find this song strangely beautitul, so I decided to make an illustration to it. I used several references such as: "Farmland at Dunloe Lower" by David Medcalf, the 15th century painting "Jesus and the Samaritan Woman at the Well" by Juan de Flandes and "Old Male Body - Reference photo pack" by @ReferencePacks .

My OC Linton, an orange feathered crow with a long feathered tail, wearing the outfit Wayne Coyne wears in the Flaming Lips video 'There Should Be Unicorns'.
