Nighttime photograph of the University of Iowa Old Capitol Building in Iowa City, Iowa. Iowa City was originally the state capital, but the capital was moved to Des Moines in 1857. The capitol building is part of a five-building grouping referred to together as the Pentacrest. Except for the small size of the capitol, the architecture is similar to other governmental buildings of the period and consists of a box shaped building with a pitched roof topped with a central tower structure that is capped with a dome (a gold dome in this case). Online sources suggest that the architectural style is Greek revival with tall columns, tall windows, and high-ceiling rooms. The capitol is in the center frame and is mostly in shadow except the area around the entrance which is lit from above and the tower and dome which are lit by powerful lights installed on the roofs of the university buildings on either side of the capitol. The capitol roof is covered in snow as is the ground and recently plowed sidewalks in front of the building and a constant heavy snow is falling. Directly in front of the capitol is a double-wide sidewalk that begins at the bottom frame and ends at the stairs at the capitol's entrance. The sidewalk lined with black lamp-style streetlights. The falling snow is lit by the streetlights creating a white fuzzy haze around each lantern.
