Tiny hot-pink plumes on Corkscrew Hazel (Corylus avellana 'Contorta' - aka The Noodle Tree)
I've noticed its male catkins are way behind our normal hazels: I wonder why?
And who's borrowing that catkin?π€π

Poster of a new Irish Tree Alphabet. The image shows the 26 letters of the English alphabet replaced by tree drawings. The trees are shown in their winter attire, bare of leaves so the structure of the tree is visible, except for evergreen trees which keep their leaves year round, like Ailm, or Scots Pine. At the bottom is a line of vertical and horizontal twigs, illustrating the Ogham, which is thought to have been at least partially inspired or based on trees. The project explores language ecosystems and incorporates Irish, English, and the medieval Ogham alphabet. Irish Tree Alphabet by Katie Holten, created for Visual Carlow, 2020. The poster is available for download from the artists website. www.katieholten.com
Here, you can download the Irish Tree Alphabet poster (the original is in black and white), and the Irish Trees font (so you can type with trees), and a coloring book (prototype!)

A low-angle shot looking up at the thick, intertwined roots and vines growing tightly around the trunk of a large tree in an Irish woodland. Lush green foliage is visible at the top and sides, with glimpses of blue sky.
I want to say this tree is 'vinyl', but that's not the right word, is it? π #IrishTrees #vines #ivy #ForestWalks #Naturelreland #TreeRoots #WoodlandPhotography #Greenlreland #WildGrowth #NatureLover #smartphonephotography #photography
