Hot weather: Bukit Merah Dam Critical for Irrigation Level 1 IPOH: The current status of the Bukit Merah Dam is at the Critical Irrigation Level 1 level, which is 6.965 metres (m) compared to the alert level of 7.62 m. The Kerian District Irrigation and Drainage Department on its Facebook page announced that the irrigation supply reserve for the dam was 18.6958 million cubic metres as of yesterday. “Farmers are advised to always use water prudently and economically,” the statement said. Oregon farmers, water managers stare at a bleak summer as irrigation season begins At 80 years old, Gary Harris is proud to call himself the oldest farmer in Jefferson County. A second-generation farmer, he’s seen a lot change, even more so in recent years. The beginning of April usually marks the time of year where he and other neighbors in his irrigation district will begin taking water from the Deschutes River system and diverting it through canals to water the thousands of acres of farms and ranches that blanket Central Oregon’s high desert. But over the last eight years, constant droughts and federal conservation rules that require the irrigation district to release water for endangered species habitat have left growers with less water for the growing season. Now, Harris in Central Oregon, as well as farmers across a broad stretch of the state, are facing a season that could be even drier. With already widespread drought and low snowpack levels, some fields will have to go fallow in Southern Oregon. Some farmers may have to get water elsewhere in the central region of the state. Finished out the bed with a Thuja, then replaced the old irrigation line. The old line was an inefficient dripper line that was also DOUBLED BACK and y'all, that was just too much water! Suuuper happy with the new lines I laid 😍 #irrigation #watering #waterefficient #garden #plants #landscaping

Sustainable irrigation is nexus thinking in action | CGIAR System Irrigation is expanding in many countries in response to climate change and rising food demands. While in the past, most irrigation expansion was for large-scale systems supported by governments and multilateral agencies, the major investors today are farmers who purchase their own technologies and use groundwater as the water source. While there are rewards to reap, without a systemic view of the trade-offs this irrigation boom can also challenge environmental sustainability and equity. Importantly, the interlinkages are subtly different everywhere, so there’s a need to share learning between countries, but also to recognize and study the local context. A set of tools is emerging to reach that systemic yet local view of irrigation that can help ensure sustainability of our water resources. They were explored in a panel of 10 experts at the 2026 Global Forum for Food and Agriculture, titled Sustainable Irrigation Requires a Water-Energy-Food-Environment (WEFE) Nexus Approach.
