Against this backdrop, the book by Donnu Gluckstein and Janey Stone, now available in German translation, sheds light on the radical and socialist traditions of the Jewish labour movement. At the same time, it contradicts the widespread equation of Judaism with Israel and of anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism, particularly in Germany. As anti-Zionist and Jewish socialists, the two authors argue for a return to the revolutionary tradition of the Jewish left. For, as Gluckstein and Stone argue, before the Second World War, the majority of Jews lived in the diaspora, belonged to the working class and were part of a broader struggle alongside their non-Jewish comrades on the left. The book pays tribute to this participation in liberation movements in numerous countries in light of the current situation. The struggle against oppression and exploitation took many forms and gave rise to various currents: from left-wing Zionism to Bundism to revolutionary Marxism.
