The son of former #NBA player Jim Paxson, the younger namesake averaged 18 points and 5 assists in his four years with the #DaytonFlyers, including 23.2 points as a senior. Paxson left the #Flyers as the third All-Time leading scorer, scoring 1945 points in 108 games.

Paxson became the 70th player to wear the #Blazers uniform when he debuted on October 12, 1979. He averaged 16 points in 627 games. When he was traded in 1988, Paxson was the all-time leading scorer in franchise history with 10,004 points. Paxson still ranks in Top-10 in Points, Steals, Assists, FGM, FTM, among others.

The draft also featured three other players that wore the #Blazers uniform. #CalvinNatt, selected 8th by the #NewJerseyNets, would join the Blazers midway thru his rookie year and played 333 games over 4 plus seasons in #Portland. #RoyHamilton played a single game with Portland while #JerrySichting, a 4th round pick by the #GoldenStateWarriors, would arrive from the #BostonCeltics in a trade for Paxson in 1988.

The 6'-6" Paxson played in the @NBA All-Star games in 1983 and 1984, becoming the fourth #Portland to play in a second All-Star game. #SidneyWicks (4 games), #GeoffPetrie (2 games), and #MauriceLucas (3 games) were the others. Paxson was named to the All-NBA second team in 1984 when he averaged 21.3 points. He was the third Blazer player to be honored with an All-NBA team, after #BillWalton and #MauriceLucas.

Playing in his sixth game since a trade brought him to #Portland from the #NewJerseyNets for #MauriceLucas, Natt scored a career-high 39 points. He connected on 11-of-16 FGA and set a team record with 22 FTA. Natt made 16 of his FTA, the same number the #Pistons attempted as a team. In addition, Natt made the only 3-PT FG in the game for either team.

Playing in his 53rd game, Paxson scored 18 points off the bench, hitting 7-of-11 FGA and passed for a game-high, and at the time, a career-best 7 assists. Playing in his 59th game, Jeelani also came off the bench to score 17 points before leaving in the fourth quarter due to a bruised knee.

Making his Blazers, and @NBA , debut, Bates played 3 minutes. He made 1-of-2 FGA and grabbed 2 rebounds. There was speculation by an @Oregonian sports columnist whether Bates would be able to fit into, and contribute, to #JackRamsay's system this late in the season.
