Vera found that oddly reassuring, although the opposite would not have stopped her either. “Wait for me here,” she said and rose. Fury guided her steps, fury that grew the closer she got. How dare he! How dare he disappear on her like that and then show up as if nothing ever had happened! She kept them firm in her gaze, and when she neared, the red-sweater boy – Cai – noticed her and said something. His brother turned and paled.
