Gampopa Sonam Rinchen, 1079-1153, disciple de Milarépa. Il fonda concrètement la congrégation Karma Kagyu.
Marpa Lotsawa, le Traducteur, 1012-1097, maître laïc. Il fera plusieurs voyages au péril de sa vie à l'époque du Tibet à l'Inde, pour rapporter l'essence des enseignements de grands maîtres indiens (Tilopa, Naropa...). Son disciple principal fut le yogi Milarépa.
Jetsun Milarépa, 1052-1135, fameux disciple de Marpa le Traducteur. Il réalisa l'Éveil en une seule vie. Ses enseignements sous forme de chants spirituels (Doga) permirent à de nombreuses personnes de réaliser la nature de leur esprit. Grâce à lui la lignée Karma Kagyu se développa en 4 branches principales et 8 autres branches. Son disciple principal fut Gampopa.
Tusoum Kyenpa, 1110-1193, fut un des disciples principaux de Gampopa. Il fut le 1er Karmapa et l'initiateur de la tradition des tulkous (maîtres réincarnés) au Tibet. Nous en sommes aujourd'hui au 17ième Karmapa.

Text Extraction and Translation Seeing the Still and Pure Mind The mind is a vast expanse of emptiness. If our mind's image in the mirror is impure, and we start to cleanse the mirror, we can only temporarily remove the dust, but we still haven't truly removed the impurities of the image. This is because our efforts are not directed at the right object, and no matter how much effort we put in, it is useless. This is why the Buddhist teachings and practice are a fundamental method: recognizing that happiness and suffering are not derived from external sources, but from the mind itself. If we practice recognizing our own mind, the mind will become still and pure on its own. It is like the dust on the mirror naturally disappearing.
