Today in #LaborHistory 1/15/1919: #RosaLuxemburg & #KarlLiebknecht, founders of Spartacist League murdered after #GeneralStrike to overthrow Social Dems, who utilized Freikorps to quash #rebellion. Many Freikorps went on to become #Nazis, including Heinrich Himmler.

Luxemburgs Worte haben noch heute Gültigkeit: Freiheit ohne Gleichheit ist Ausbeutung, Gleichheit ohne Freiheit ist Unterdrückung! In einer Zeit in der Rassismus, Krieg und soziale Spaltung geschürt werden und eine kleine Elite immer reicher wird ist ihr Vermächtnis aktueller denn je! Wir halten ihr Andenken lebendig!
Am 15.01.1919 wurden Rosa und Karl brutal ermordet, weil sie eine gerechtere Gesellschaft wollten.
Ihr Mut und ihre Konsequenz erinnern daran, dass soziale Gerechtigkeit und Demokratie permanent erkämpft werden müssen und dieser Kampf auch heute weitergeht!

… In der Bundesrepublik verschwand Liebknecht dann in die Versenkung, bis heute fehlt das Denkmal für ihn am Potsdamer Platz: 1951 enthüllte Friedrich Ebert Junior dort noch einen Denkmalsockel für #KarlLiebknecht, mehr wurde nicht daraus, der Sockel blieb ein Torso. Warum? /3

Yesterday, 11 January 2026, the annual #demonstration in memory of the assassination of #RosaLuxemburg and #KarlLiebknecht was held in #Berlin. It is the largest demonstration of #socialists in Europe. The participants mainly demonstrate for peace, equal rights, against war and against capitalism.

December 2, 1914 - Karl Liebknecht was the only member of German Parliament to vote against war with France and Britain. He was arrested shortly thereafter and conscripted into the German Army. Refusing to fight, Liebknecht served on the Eastern Front burying the dead.
