March 21 1981 - #KermitWashington did his best to keep up with #KareemAbdulJabbar in the rebounding department, but the #Lakers were able to defeat the @trailblazers.bsky.social in the #MemorialColiseum for time in nearly two years.

The #Blazers, who jumped to a 20-point lead after one quarter, set a team record with 24 steals in their win, a record that still stands. #LafayetteLever led the way with 6 steals, with #CalvinNatt picking off 5 more, tying his career-best. #JimPaxson led the way with 29 points, while four players added 14 points. A total of eight players scored in double-digits, including rookie #TomPiotrowski, who scored a career-high 10 points in 8 minutes.

Washington, who retired midway thru the 1981/82 season, attempted a comeback in the fall but had to step aside due to his back injury. He played 153 games in his first two seasons in #Portland but was only able to play 20 games in his third season before retiring. He averaged 11.6 points and 9.5 rebounds in 173 games. For his career, Washington averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds in 507 games from 1973 to 82.
