Thompson, the #ABA #ROY winner last year. suffered minor cuts upon his face and body from the flying glass. While not serious, he did not return to the game. “I’m okay (but) I just had bits of glass inside my uniform and some penetrated the skin." Thompson finished with a team-high 18 points in 22 minutes. It took 34 minutes for the Memorial Coliseum crew to replace the board before the game could resume. #BillWalton and #MauriceLucas led the #Blazers with 19 and 18 points respectfully, as well as in rebounds with 12 and 10.
October 8 1976 - The @nuggets.bsky.social #DavidThompson provided some excitement for the 7,718 @trailblazers.bsky.social fans at the #MemorialColiseum when he shattered the glass backboard with a dunk midway thru the fourth quarter.

In the first game, featuring first and second year @NBA players, former #BeaversMBB guard #MarkRadford scored 32 points but it wasn't enough as his Blue Team fell to the Green Team led by #MichaelWiley, who scored 33 points.
The contest featured another #OregonState alum in #LesterConner, who tallied 8 points for the Green Team. @trailblazers rookie #FatLever added 15 points for the winning side. The nightcap saw former #OregonMBB #GregBallard score 19 points, helped by #Blazers guard #JimPaxson, who added 17 points, as the White Squad defeated the Red Team. The Red Team was led by #JamesEdwards 23 points with #DanRoundfield adding 22 more. #Portland guard #BillyRayBates scored 14 points in the familiar red. Lever pulled double duty as he grabbed a Red jersey and added 13 more in the second game.
August 26, 1982 - The 2nd Annual #NBPA Golf & Tennis Classic tipped off with a good ol' fashioned double-header at the #MemorialColiseum.

Colter, a second round pick from #NewMexicoStateUniversity, finished with 20 points and earned a spot on the #Blazers #SummerLeague roster. #DanCaldwell of #UniversityofWashington added 16 more points and 10 rebounds for the White squad and will join Colter in Los Angeles. Tony Brown of #Indiana led all scorers with 23 points, but was not invited to join the summer squad.
For the RedTeam, #JeromeKersey from #LongwoodUniversity and #TimDunham of #ChaminadeUniversity each scored 14 points and earned roster spots in Los Angeles as well. A surprise player to earn a run in the #SummerLeague is #LanceBall who attended #WesternOregonUniversity. Ball averaged 15.7 points and 9.6 rebounds for the #NAIA #Wolves.
Before the main event, a team of Ex-#Portland players took on a team of former #SeattleSupersonics players, with the #SuperSonics pulling out the win, with a little help. The #Sonics only had four players show up so former #Blazers forward #GregSmith joined #SlickWatts, #LeonardGray, #HenryAkin, and #TalSkinner. The #Portland team consisted of #LaRueMartin, #DannyAnderson, #LarrySteele, #LeRoyEllis, and #DarrallImhoff. Most likely, this is the first Blazers Alumni game, but @blazerscollector.bsky.social would know that answer. The team would travel around Oregon and help raise for money for various charitable organizations for manny years.
July 10, 1984 - The @trailblazers.bsky.social Rookie camp concluded with a tight, competitive game that ended on a last-second shot by rookie #SteveColter to give the White Team an 85-84 win against the Red Team in front of 3,071 fans at the #MemorialColiseum

#GeoffPetrie, the #Blazers number 1 pick from #Princeton, scored 30 points for the Red team but his teammate #RonKnight, who played with #CalStateLA, led all scorers with 34 points while pulling down 15 rebounds. #DanMcLemore, formally of #BowlingGreen scored 30 and grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds for the Red team. For the Grey team, #DougBoyd of #TexasChristian scored 25 points and gathered 17 rebounds while #IsraelOliver, who played for #ElizabethState scored 22 points. Twins #LloydKerr and #FloydKerr of #ColoradoState, combined for 37 points and 9 rebounds, with #NickJones late of #Oregon scored 21 points.
The two sides combined for 267 FGA in 48 minutes and connected on 116 FGM. They combined for 139 rebounds. #Portland's Director of Player Personnel #StuInman anticipates "two, three, or four" of the rookies today could help the expansion team in the coming season.

The game was marred by a total eight technical fouls, and the ejection of #ClydeDrexler for a "punching foul" after his elbow found Andersons' chin in third quarter rebound box out. Words were exchanged between the two before Drexler was ejected and escorted off the court by two #SanAntonio police officers. When informed the ejection would be a fine of $250, Drexler mentioned it might be worth "protesting" it.
The ejection led to Blazers coach #RickAdelman and #Spurs coach #LarryBrown to shout towards each other before they were ordered back to their benches.
Tensions continued between the teams, with more words exchanged between #BuckWilliams and #DavidRobinson in the fourth quarter before each received a technical foul.
#JeromeKersey led the #Blazers with 22 points and #CliffordRobinson added 20 more. #BuckWilliams, who was named the @NBA All-Defensive team earlier in the day, scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Lucas struggled from the field vs the #UtahJazz, going 0-for-4 from the field and finished with 1 point, but he did gather a team-high 14 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. Lucas played 330 games with #Portland for a total of 4 1/2 season and 14 years overall in the #ABA and the #NBA. Lucas would move up the bench the following year, joining the staff of Portland coach #MikeSchuler for the 1988/89 season. In his first run with the Blazers, Lucas helped the team to the 1977 NBA Title and was selected to the NBA All-Star Games in 1977, 78, and 79. and was on the 1978 All-NBA Second team. Lucas was also named to the All-Defensive teams in 1978 and 1979.

After hearing the name, the 11,029 fans decided they did not like the name #TrailBlazers and booed. At the conclusion of the game, when the PA announced to come back in the fall and see the "Portland Trail Blazers," the booing seemed louder.

#HarryGlickman, VP of the #Blazers as well as the promoter for the CCTV event, told fans to arrive at the MC around 6:30, roughly assuming that would be close to the time the Blazers and #BuffaloBraves game would be ending. At the conclusion of the basketball game, all 4,785 fans attending had to exit, then re-enter in order to watch the fight. Over 8,000 people were in attendance to watch the nightcap, paying either $10 or $12.50 per ticket, doubled the cost of the most expensive ticket to attend a Blazers game. The fight, which famously featured Frazier beating Ali in 15 rounds, would soon be shown, in color, at four different theaters around Portland three days later.
For the game itself, #Braves guard #DonMay scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in leading #Buffalo to the road win. May, a reserve on the #1969/70 New York Knicks, had a career in 1970/71 with #Buffalo. May averaged 3.5 points in 2 seasons with the @nyknicks, but his averaged jumped to 20 points in 1971 for Buffalo. He scored 30 points or more 12 times in his career and all 12 were during his year with Buffalo. #GeoffPetrie scored 20 points to lead #Portland but took 21 FGA to get his total, including missing his first 8 FGA. As a team the Blazers were cold, shooting 38 of 110 FGA. The Braves had 18 fewer FGA, yet made 3 more than Portland. It was also announced that the fans could let the Blazers Front Office know whether to select "Heads" or "Tails" in the coming coin-flip to determine the 1st pick in the 1971 @NBA Draft. Portland has the worst record in the Western Conference at 23-52, 10 less wins that the @SeattleSonics.
