But this is good! Set in Tamil Nadu and in Tamil language which I think #TheVillage is too. It deals with foest folklore and a tribal Goddess called Vanaratchi.

OK Indian horror #Khauf showed me you can make a good horror series. This is next.

Do I recommend?
Yes. This is the first of the 5 Indian horror series I've watched that I can confidently recommend. The post finale bits are kinda flimsy but I can forgive it as it avoids all the usual crass S2 baiting other series get so carried away with.

Khauf touches on greatness but this finale has two errors.
Firstly Dr Shonini must be used in the final showdown in some fashion.
Second Nakul got his comeuppance 2 eps ago. Being stuck with that asshat fiancee of his is sufficient so it was too OTT.

Dr Shohini finally realising things are off is great.
Madhu exposing Nakul was great and kind of the purpose of the whole drama so I thought the final ep would do it.
Arun is an eejit but is trying.

As expected the spectre is Jeeva. Will Constable Mishra go psycho on the shaman now?
The 6 months ago flashbacks are needed as that initial one pre ep #1.01 was kinda too busy.
The highlight was possessed Madhu getting retribution on her rapists as she murders them one by one.

I like the clash of philosophies between Dr Shohini's psychiatry and the supernatural beliefs.
Oh God don't dare you dare put Kiara in danger! The only times i get scared are when Kiara was threatened.

Anyway there is a contrast between the behaviour of Madhu (aided by Dr Sarkar and Kiara) and dem bitches (aided by Dr Hakim).
I'm not sure who dem bitches represent? Are they meant to represent the victims of abuse who become abusers themselves?

A lot has happened in 4 eps yet we are only half way done. So I hope the usual Indian horror plot failures aren't awaiting. Khauf has been excellent so I suspect it won't again turn to sludge.
I assume the bad girls were hexed by Jeeva before he disappeared?

When Madhu gets all the good girls in her life and banishes the miserable bitches you think it's gonna be a new lease of life for her but no. Her happy gang ends quick.
Likewise I kept waiting for Bela to let slip that Nakul is from Gwalior but no it's Arum who is to blame.

Rima worming her way into Madhu's room by cleaning and repairing her cum-stained top was great. Rima then using her daughter Komal to poison Madhu in the most hamfisted manner ever was great too.
The final scare with the creeping scorpion and spectre reveal were so damn good.

I liked how the cop is just blatantly lying to her work to cover face. She suffers class ridicule too.
Didn't even realise the bearded guy with Babban at the start was her missing son!
Nor did i realise the sleazebag on the bus jiizzed over Madhu. That's how subtle this is!

"Khauf" is excellent, scary, grimy and intricate. It's heading for far better marks but I've been burned before.

The actor playing Arun, the crap boyfriend, is great too as Arun is so weak and selfish at every turn.
The pre-credits for ep #1.01 set 6 months ago probably needs revisiting now as I'm unsure which of those characters died and how everyone at that hostel party has changed.

So subtle. That the 4 women cannot physically leave the hostel is maybe because they were raped rather than any supernatural cause?
You even have to work out that the woman living opposite the witch Doctor is a prostitute.

If #Andhera was about depression then #Khauf is about sexual violence on women. However Andera was an unsubtle dog's dinner in how it dealt with its theme. This is engaging. At first we don't even realise Mahdu had been raped. So we have to work it out.

This is so much better as yet than #Andhera. The latter was flashy showboat slop from Mumbai this is gritty, grimy fare from Delhi. This is subtler, feels like it is saying something about Delhi and unlike #Andhera will try deliver actual horror.

Just finished Khauf. A horror series from a female author with a female protagonist and in a plot where almost every male character is deeply flawed including a mysterious but quite a weaker villain. The first episodes are very gripping. The actors were superb. 6.5/10 #khauf
