"May I?" Alyss snapped to attention, her eyes fully opening from her attempt at rest only to see Leliana standing before her, pointing at the spot beside her on the floor. "Yeah, go ahead," Alyss mumbled. Leliana took the spot beside Alyss and for a moment merely sat there, gently humming under her breath, an oddly comforting presence, until finally she spoke. "I couldn't help but notice you have not yet taken your rations or water yourself," she pointed out. "You haven't either," Alyss retorted. Leliana made a soft amused sound in the back of her throat, as though surprised Alyss had noticed. She then reached for her own waterskin, took a generous swig from it, then offered it to Alyss. "Touché." Alyss chuckled and, having no argument, accepted the waterskin. "How's the arm, Songbird? Still sore?" she asked, and took a swig as well.
Taking a page from the bard's own book, Alyss rummaged in her bag for her rations, found a small bundle of hard biscuits and unraveled it. She picked up two, took one into her mouth and offered the other to Leliana. For a time, they passed the food around in silence, occasionally sharing another drink of water, until the biscuits were all but gone and neither seemed particularly interested in the few that were left.
Look I'm such a sucker for the small moments of closeness.
