Another barren batch for #lablit in the Observer & Sunday Times... poor year for the genre unless - & I probably am - missing ones that have not made their way to those reviews
We read The Bloodless Boy a couple of years ago & it is on the #lablit list [though not full of 17th C science as we hoped]

We will discuss as #Lablit Emma Cook's You Can't Hurt Me shortly. I can confirm it is a crime/thriller - I was unsure! Quite melodramatic.
#booksky
Approx 70 pages left I shall breeze through tomorrow! I am still uncertain how to categorise it. Perhaps that is a good thing. Anyway, no spoilers though I had an insight around page 110 I think it was, that I will surely discover is right or wrong in the last 20 pages! #booksky #lablit
I still have 170 odd pages of the book we will discuss tomorrow as #lablit - Emma Cook, You Can't Hurt Me. 1/3 plus in still not sure if it is a crime story, family drama, or thriller! Not read the blurb or precis.
... but where has all the #lablit gone? not spotted much new this year! ππ

This is a very good novel ππ
My own #scifi favourite genre, is set in a contemporary or very near future, with some particular scientific development/innovation, that forms the core of the story... that is I suppose why I like #lablit, I like a story that seems close to possible.

It is the USA's #blackhistorymonth (October in UK) - thought I should mention over the month some relevant authors of #Lablit. I won't do all now...
Covers of 6 books read in January: THE SILVER BONE (Andrey Kurkov) THE BLOODLESS BOY (Robert J Lloyd) DEADLY FOCUS (R C Bridgestock) EVERYONE THIS CHRISTMAS HAS A SECRET (Benjamin Stevenson) NOTRE DAME OF PARIS (Victor Hugo) THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA (Ernest Hemingway)
Statistics relating to books read in January. Bar and pie charts showing genre, format, book length
Books I read in January. Of these, I recommend The Silver Bone and The Bloodless Boy. Both are historical crime novels, one set in pre/just-about Soviet Kyiv, the other in restoration London. The Silver Bone has a very slight tinge of magical realism, The Bloodless Boy fits into #LabLit nicely

It would be true #lablit if the mathematician featured more strongly. It should appeal to those who enjoy short stories by the way. I do not want to give away anything though! #booksky
