The reason I love #Ladds500 so much is that it crystalizes Portland's optimism and defiance. In all honesty, in terms of infrastructure, leadership & safety, PDX is a mediocre to substandard city for people who bike.

Yet people who bike here celebrate, in costume, loudly, joyously, whole-heartedly.

Enjoying my city and its love of odd #bicycle events: 500 lap relay around a large traffic circle. More regatta than race though, complete with people running pancakes to those riding very tall bikes.
