If anyone on the western side of Lake Macquaries need to know, the Blackalls Park bottle'o is open today.

Various picnic items on a floral tablecloth: an orange can of La Morena refried black beans; a small jar of whole artichoke hearts; a very small can of La Morena pickled jalapeño slices; a skinny jar of pitted green olives; a small Tupperware container with two pickled eggs. Two stainless steel spoons and two small forks rest on the tablecloth. There's a blurry view of trees, grass, picnic tables, a toilet block, and a car beyond the table.
A view of the lake from the Kooroora Bay side of the bridge. Blue sky with some low clouds above the land in the middle ground, blue lake with a couple of moored boats, some vegetation at the edge.
The view from the side of the table, with trees and grass leading down to the lake. A couple of pelicans can just be seen through the trees, floating at the lake's edge.
[food, picnic, view]
Caught the bus to Kooroora Bay and walked across the Fennell Bay Bridge to the Lions park for a picnic today. Glorious day, nice cooling breeze off the lake.
A simple CBF picnic comprising rice in tiffins, a few jars / cans, and pickled eggs […]

Little red flying foxes hanging high in casuarina trees. Mangrove trees at their base, a sole Lagunaria (native hibiscus) in front, power lines and blue sky above.
Here's a view of the flying foxes along the side of Stoney Creek. The colony has expanded to near its limits now without crossing the creek or roads, must be many thousands in there now.

The little red flying fox colony at Stoney Creek, Toronto NSW was very noisy this morning. It seemed like everyone was awake, some flying about, all chattering or screeching. Warm sunny morning?

This senseless cruelty is unacceptable. Kangaroos are sentient, social animals and a vital part of our ecosystem, yet they continue to be targeted and unfairly blamed for environmental damage. We need real accountability and stronger protections for our national icon. 🦘

Looking into a stainless steel tiffin with calrose rice and cumin seeds, giant butter beans in a tomato sauce, and smoked sprats (sardines). An as-yet unblemished tablecloth sits underneath, but with bits of food flying off our spoons it'll need a good soak before washing.
[food, picnic, non-veg]
After a visit to Bibina, armed with a canned picnic and some rice I brought in our tiffins, we caught the bus to Speers Point Park. Where we discovered that they were setting up for a concert, so all of the picnic tables away from the […]

A swamp hen (NZ: pūkeko) and a smaller bird (maybe a juvenile swamp hen or moor hen?) grazing on the grass next to a footpath, while a greater egret stands on the pipe fence overlooking the stormwater drain. A stop sign, a left lane must turn left sign, traffic, and a petrol station in the background.
A closer look at the great egret on the pipe fence, overlooking the stormwater drain with bulrushes in it and a willow hanging down into it. By this stage the egret is starting to grumble (pretty sure it's telling us to fuck off!)
A swamp hen (NZ: pūkeko) grazing grass next to the road, while a little pied shag sits on the pipe fence overlooking a stormwater drain. In the drain you can see the back ends of two moor hens. Lots of bulrushes growing alongside the drain, and taro growing in it. Willows and other trees behind, a busy road to the left.
Walking back from Bibina to a bus stop, we came across this lovely bunch of birds around a storm water channel. Right next to the very busy Hillsborough Road.
"Birds of a feather", etc.

Two partial shelves with Mexican and latinx products. The lower shelf has 5 hot sauces from El Yucateco including jalapeño and habanero sauces; Tapatío; and some Crystal hot sauce. The upper shelf has various sauces / moles in jars and bottles.
Tapatío is a delicious hot sauce made in California, to latinx tastes. I used to be able to pick it up from Coles supermarkets, but they've dropped that line. Boo.
But at least Bibina at Warners Bay still has it, along with a great range of El Yucateco hot sauces […]

A sandwich board sign outside a Harry's Schnitzel shop. The sign says "Beat the queue! Download Harry's app and earn points"
The most optimistic sign here in Toronto NSW. There's never a queue here. There's three opportunities to buy bánh mì on this street.

A water bird with a purple chest, black wings and head, a red beak, and huge pink feet stands on a rusty railway track. There's green grass and light brown casuarina trash between the tracks. Lush green bush behind.
From Thursday's walk to get groceries: a swamp hen posing on an old railway track.

A large white-bellied sea eagle soaring high in a clear blue sky, above three smaller birds flying.
The classic V shape of a soaring eagle, in a clear blue sky above casuarina tree tops.
A pelican standing on the bar of a lamppost next to a busy roadway. Clouds low in a blue sky behind, casuarina trees below.
A closer shot of the pelican on the lamppost. It's attention is drawn to something outside the photograph – another two pelicans flying past. Blue sky with low clouds behind.

Odd thing I discovered this month, supermarkets around here no longer sell caraway seeds (nor aniseed). I ended up buying them from a Korean grocer, by happenstance. 🤷♂️

Well, that was some rain; 80mm between the 9am's and nearly all of it overnight. Once again doubting the wisdom of a skylight and a TV in the same room, thank goodness for subtitles.
