I've fallen into the rabbit hole; I've watched videos about Landrace/Adaptive Gardening and Bonsai...

Now I'm tilling up more land for the garden. And eyeballing everything to see if it can bonsai😆

Tomatillo plant brought indoors is still growing! The visible tomatillos continue to expand in their little jackets and new fruits are starting now too! (I am pollinating by gently smooshing flowers of diff plants together.)

Though I don’t care about tomatoes my partner likes them so I’m attempting to bring this year’s plants indoors to overwinter. It’s too cold for them outside but apparently it’s not too cold indoors yet.

I can’t believe my tomatillo and tomato are still growing since I brought them indoors weeks ago.

The only con of cold climates imo is that some of the best foods —peppers, tomatillos— don’t like it. Sigh. I want to create tomatillos and peppers that thrive in my short growing seasons! 🤞 #landrace

Close-up of what looks like seeds from dozens of pea species but is actually just two. They’re beautiful greens and blues and tans, all sporting little wrinkles.

I don’t care what species I grow, I just want to grow plants that *want* to grow here without my help. That’s the point of landrace gardening. If this very old idea is new to you, please give it a google. You won’t be disappointed!

Harvesting seeds to create a #landrace pea especially for me! Let’s do this. 👏

Remember, you don’t have to grow acres and acres of food to be a gardener or have fun. Any space will do. Really!

We really need some good #maize cobs to add to the lab collection! We have a very good #rice #landrace selection developing from Korea and India though.

"Gwenllian" (F5) microdwarf, my own creation. This strain has remained stable, since F2. ❤️

These plants were sown July 15th, so they're nearly a month old.

Forgot to feed my #sourdough starter for more than 2 weeks 😬

Feared it might be dead, bunged it some #ReclaimTheGrain #TamarValley #Landrace wheat flour 1/2 an hour ago, and it's bubbling away like a witch's cauldron.

Those poor microbes were HUNGRY! 🦠

Olive foccacia coming up 😋

Burmese Sativa @ 116 days. Probably early but this stalk could ready depending on your preference. I’m letting the rest go until I start to see small spattering of amber. #cannabis #sativa #landrace #homegrow

End of week 15. I think I’ve been getting dates wrong in some posts. I triple counted this time. Trichromes are still mostly clear. Definitely getting fade. Some flowers are getting a nice purple. Some staying green. Maybe one more week? #sativa #cannabis #homegrown #landrace

Corn and sorghum require nitrogen fertilizers. But there's a few species that have their own nitrogen factories in symbiosis with bacteria. So cool! So important in this fast warming climate. Not to mention tariffs on fertilizers.

Opening slide at a conference presentation.

The title reads: Bere barley: root soil interactions.

The graphic displayed shows a modern bred barley plant next to a historic landrace which has evolved in response to the local environmental conditions and management. There is a zoomed in section of both root systems which shows that the landrace has a larger zone of soil modification “Rhizosheath” than the modern barley.

Last week I had to pleasure of attending and presenting my research at the Barley Away Days hosted by @hutton.ac.uk

Using an accessible high-throughput system, Scottish landrace #bere had a larger zone of soil influence than an elite cultivar at early seedling stage

In a continuing Earl Grey saga, at Landrace in Bath, I was encouraged to have lemon, and upon agreeing, three perfectly thin and beautifully executed slices appeared. Magic! I adore young people who understand how to gave Earl Grey tea ❤️
