A picture of the 5 gallon plastic pot that has 3 agapanthus rhizomes planted within with hand crumpled Japanese blueberry leaves that naturally fell of and dried under my lanai couch in a metal 3 sided box inside a plastic bag. Literature states this is best put thru a food processor type mechanical blade to turn it into crushed leaves but hand crushing as long as they're dead and dried will suffice but will not break down into the soil as rapidly. That's OK because it's high nitrogen feed for potting mix from Miracle Gro already high in nitrogen based compost and fed for 6 months with a balanced granular fertilizer which isn't in total a good thing for a flowering plant growing for its 1st year. Here, we see 2 leaf blades like the letter "M" because the 3rd mellowed and disappeared from the surface as the weather has been mostly rain and overcast without sufficient sun to dry out soil in between. That's my 2 cents. I believe the rhizome will survive or is still alive and will return because the roots are well enough along by now.

The yellow Trumpet Vine, growing wild into my home's wall and towards the ground, after biweekly fertilizing with 2-15-15 liquid dilution over entire side of bed which only has this plant on it. It was already growing in a way that suggested intentional pruning when it dies back for winter which it will in December until mid March. The hardwood stems are not to be touched but the lateral stems that leave wood behind, will grow new lateral out of both the main growing stems of thick hardwood but mostly out of leaf nodes left bare by fallen leaves on this year's lateral stems which are looking like a wild head of hair a la Sideshow Bob. But the amount of flowers have increased.
The Stargazer Oriental Lily bulb planted between the two canna Lily rhizomes growing well and tall after planted in Aug, the most stressful month for geophytes to be planted as literature almost assures no chance of establishing plants thereby dooming summer planting of nontropical flowering gèophytes, yet both grow bag lilies and these in ground lilies both established enough roots, aided I'm sure by bone meal, but also have grown enough above soil for photosynthesis to supply energy to the root ball and fibrous roots of the bulb and those grown out of the below soil sprout. Somehow, it's worked out for me.
This is the Lily directly to the right of Stargazer Lily from image 2. The sprout was broken off completely down to a few cm from the bulbs growing tip accidentally in the zip lock bag containing vermiculite with each bulb for the 4 weeks after delivery it was kept at 45° in my pantry fridge. Convention states very delayed new growth and potential and likely loss of a year in terms of 1st flowering, but with a week delay with respect to the Stargazer sprout becoming an above soil stem with leaves, it rebounded pretty much immediately. It'll catch up to Stargazer as that's slowed down while the Oriental Mix bulb that broke the sprout is rapidly changing from a dense pineapple looking sprout above the soil to extending space between the leaves and growing the stem.
The 2nd mama Aloe aborescens or Torch Aloe still in the spot to the right that I want it moved from to join all the succulent plants, mostly Torch Aloe offsets and 1 mama Aloe. It'll be moved on Wednesday 9/10

1 of the recently removed offsets, 3 weeks ago before transpla ting areas for mama Aloe, potted with 2 roots attached, no shock and settled into 8" pot well.
Desert rose plant with very thick caudex sent in March as a year old in 12" pot and by mom's insistence transplanted into this deep bodied and oblong at top clay pot weighing a ton alone without soil and the plant. It suffered desert rose aphids at every new growth point for 3 months due to bi-weekly balanced fertilizer dosing blindly assuming that aphids that were gold and caused no visual damage could be left alone, actually kept it from reaching its flowering stage, helped along by high nitrogen dosing as opposed to low nitrogen high phosphorus and potassium feeding for 3 months of summer it's expected to flower. Now after the wall geckos at the aphids, the fire ants are farming them back to the desert rose for their honeydew secretions. Since need oil burns plants in Florida heat, I have to use my fingers to remove small amounts and squash gatherings formed at new growth. Thanks to 2-15-15 feeding, it's been minimal return of aphids but until late fall when I can transplant it, remove all soil from roots, trim roots, and repot in shallow container, possibly a grow bag with a podium on which the roots can be forced to stay shallow, or gravel instead of mistakenly using rocks from my yard, then no real change will occur. The aphids have eggs in that soil and within the soil held by roots that ate probably way too long for the needs of the plant. It was like dressing a 5 year old girl in her senior prom dress and expediting her to naturally be comfortable in only that oversized gown. That's how I felt by putting a succulent into a deep bodied 5 gallon pot with an oblong uneven top rim.
1 of 2 canna lilies. Planted a month ago and arrived as 2/3 eyes each (how Dutch bulb retailers call rhizomes sold by identifying how many growing points are definitely on the cut rhizome by the 1st number and potential for total grow points on the cut rhizome as the 2nd number) makes actual crown grown perennials like peonies confusing to picture when identified in size of crown piece with eyes on it when arriving from delivery. And some are sold as just 1 root as size of growth portion without mention of eyes like Papaver Poppies or Daylilies. This was planted vertically because it was black with barely contours and no growth on it to orient which way to position the rhizome, an orientation if left wouldn't have grown at all. So after eating 5 days for a single root to grow for orienting the top from the bottom, I successfully planted them right, while 1 never came up. With risk of fusarium, botrytis, and Cucumber Melon Virus fresh in my mind, I made a DIY fungal paste out of ground tumeric and water to coat the rhizome in. Without time to dry, I knew planting it wet would not only very temporarily protect it, but also risk obscuring the eyes and blocking sprouts from forming if crusted over eye instead of washed away. But in Florida summer it's raining nearly 5 days a week so it rained heavily the next 3 days at night certainly washing clean each rhizome making the practice futile while securing more knowledge of home remedies to offset the costs of unnecessary garden aides that seem to be the only solution when problems arise.
The 2nd canna Lily planted the same way with the same limitations as the 3rd images alt text, this time growing from 2 of the eyes on the fidget spinner sized rhizome sent as overstock clearance without any premature sprouting to indicate direction of top and bottoms when planting on all 3 when all lilies and dahlias from same company where a mess with sprouts as if not properly kept chilled in dormancy but was kept hydrated somehow.

3 unidentified kalanchoes rescued from beneath the canopy of the autograph tree before dying, only 4" tall at the time and now unable to be positively identified by various AI planting ID apps so I've named them Kalanchoe 'Kong' for how big they've grown.

I up potted them over the year and transplanted them to the Succulent Bed, named for unsweetened exposure to Florida midday summer sun, which killed everything but succulents. I dont grow tropical plants aside from Canna Lilies, which I'm not a fan of for hor dingy they look while naturally fading blooms degrade to brown from red, yellow, or orange on green or red ornamental foliage and looks dirty but if kept up with regularly, there's no reason for thos to happen.

The umbrella shrub that should be 2' tall and 4' wide growing desperately outwards in search of sun with its variegated coloring able to use the 2 hours of dappled light like 5 points reaching thru the filter of 2 live oak and an autograph tree while wedged up against the tall corner of a fence both behind and on 1 side, and make enough energy with that light to fuel such outrageous growth, aided by nitrogen dense soil from live oak mulch and many plants dying under the autograph tree canopy and roots feeding beneficial microbial life in the upper 5" of soil which appears to be loam before turning to clumping sand native of Central Florida. Its amazing what nature can do to survive
The sick Lantana camara which may have lacewigs if I'm getting the name of the insect causing yellowing leaves with copper dotting, appearing as tiny black dots on the leaves' undersides. The beige blob in back of the plant is my greyhound-chihuahua mix crouching over to torment a gecko it caught.
The Musa sikimensis or Blood Banana proud specimen she is now that she went from a studio apt for a container to a million square ft mansion, from 2 qt pot to 5 gallon grow bag. It never held on to more than 3 leaves, and 3rd leaf always degraded once the top 2 were unfurled, so rapidly. Now it has 6 leaves with a 7th unfurling atop with only slight signs of a leaf at right degrading. Also an offset is growing out of the root ball at soil level and with 2-15-15 liquid bloom/fruit booster liquid fertilizer weekly since it set after up potting transplant, I may get fruit out of her yet as I got her into August which is peak growth month completely in her ne pot. I hope the inflourescence that yields the red colored peels of bananas appear on this container suited tree hybrid frorn Leaf N Petals Designs via HSN. This is its 1st year growing, arrival from its greenhouse nursery a month old as a starter plant in a 12" pot or 1 qt pot which was then immediately up potted into 2 qt which it stayed in while I dealt with life and found little time for a container garden when the actual yard was a mess of overgrown and undergarments plants. The landscaper handing the business tot gis son once Trump came into power helped none as he tended to my mom's plants for free as his son does little beyond what he's paid to do. I understand his job is to make money but he carried fusarium wilt, botrytis as corm rot (in my yard) and Cucumber Melon Virus across all yards done in the day his tools picked them up from a yard with out of control fungal and viral pathogens, since entirely excavated and soil replaced once the HOA mandated palm trees died on his property. Us unlucky enough to have geophytes marking our landscapes uniquely as my 7 years of visiting and each time adding lily bulbs and canna rhizomes to this particular area left to grow into the landscape undisturbed all died in a month with signs occurring of ill plants so rapidly degrading to death
My 2 Lantana camara plants returned to glory after over nitrogen fertilized treatments kept them from flowering and then susceptible to the aphid outbreak bringing spider mites which ravaged the entire leafy growth of all 3 lantanas.

This Shasta Daisy died in front of me of transplant shock. All leaves of this 3" starter nursery pot plant browned, shriveled and died away. Believing in allowing soil microbes to feed on plant roots no longer alive in let it stay. Upon return to cut it down to soil level, I found a return of green leaves a week ago. Now it's about as wide as a dollar bill and had grown 2", measured
This oxtail fern hasn't had its pot changed since being bought 2 days before my dad passed in 2017. It stays and returns annually, however weak it may be, in the same 20 gallon plastic pot that once saw massive tails growing from it. It breaks my heart how attached to this plant, as is, my mom is. She refuses to allow me to re pot and refresh the soil, divide the tubers it grows from, and return it to a healthy state. While true I may fail with such a delicate task differing wildly from pulling crowns apart with ease instead requiring the same care a dahlia left perennial in place inside a container would require surgical tuber extraction of the few healthy ones and discarding the varying stages of decay the mass of tubers forming a clump crowding the plant is, I understand her fear that it's a living thing attached so patently to the memory of her deceased life live where no other memory of him had life in it.
The landscape papers forming a circle housed a Japanese blueberry tree, 1 of 6 in my backyard, with rocks acting as mulch, ineffectively if I may say so, and since it's demise last year, my mom is gifting me the space, after being weeded, rocks within removed, and soil amended from whatever healthy soil lay above central Florida natural soil of clumping sand which is clay and rock in properties with deceitful appearance of free draining sand like that at the beach. Its 12 feet across the middle circumference so I can plant a spherical pyramid size descending from tallest center to size consistent rings around which will be carefully planned crops that will mature over several years before needing division and will fill in the spaces left at mature stages of growth which I can start using my mature bulbs for and put annuals, ,both large and dwarf hybrids, interlocking the spaces in the meantime while I cultivate mature perennials in grow bags over several years. We have very limited space out back to grow on as our community landscaper mows thru, both figuratively & literally, weekly now and monthly in winter.
This skeleton of a jade looking tree in center of image was a wildly overgrown autograph tree that munched it's own invasive growth casting a canopy over tropical plants below that by nature grew with 4 to 5 leaves and suffocated the agave and umbrella shrub to the right. Plus above are 2 live oak trees, one in our and 1 in our neighbors yard which hand above this bed each half of its own canopy dumping leaves every December without being raked away, live oak tree leaf deposits being an excellent mulch for Florida regenerative gardening, and for 10 years mulch fed the soil while protecting the plants with access to the sun, ie the autograph tree, and fueled a nitrogen rich vegetative growth stage that never went to flowering, fruit, or seed pods, flowering and fruit should occur every year as a succulent that flowers. These plants shouldn't reach 12' tall with 34 branches that were pruned off this weekend, reaching average of 4' long each and containing 70 leaves on average. My mom wanted it pruned hard and off schedule, during peak growing rather than early winter or late winter before it's growth resumes, potentially killing it. Since Saturday, I see signs of new growth all over the plant. Its gonna be fine. Below it are 6 snake plants each born out of the original as suckered propagation with a brand new suckered forming a new plant at right. For now it's attached to the Stalin underground rising up as a single blade of thick and pointy plant with the ridges showing where it'll fan out to form the pattern it's recognized from etched into the bottom and getting more pronounced each week I look at it. The salon is as thick as 3" in spherical circumference. That's as thick as 1 of the 2 forearm bones.
