A photo taken underground in an ice cave. The dominant feature is a large complex of white, semi translucent ice stalagmites formed by freezing dripping water from the ceiling. They form a roughly cone shaped area in the lower center of the picture, narrowing toward the center of the image. One set of stalagmite/stalagtite have met and fused into a column between the floor and ceiling. The upper half of the image is all dark brownish green lava stone with a coating of ice. I am reaching out one arm at center right toward the ice, and touching the top of a formation with one finger. I'm wearing a bright orange coat and a hat. I have a full white beard, and I'm facing the center of the image while looking slightly downward at the formation I'm touching.
Ok, The Ice Gnome Kingdom and I shall keep them.

A photo from inside an underground lava tube. A formation caused by a lava flow that hardened on the surface, then drained, leaving a stone tube that can be explored. Sometimes the structures underground can be complex, or quirky. Here, people are walking through the lava tube in silhouette from their headlamps, under a narrow channel where a flow of lava left the walls more narrow, then drained further down. A stone of lava rolled into place and wedged itself in the narrow part overhead, fusing in place. A small spot light highlights the feature. The feature was named "The Meatball" by a scout troop that explored this very long lava tube many decades ago on the slopes of Mount Saint Helens of Washington State, US. The lava tube is banned for the youth scout troop, The Apes, thus "Ape Cave". The 1980 eruption of the volcanic mountain did not create this lava tube. It is far far older than that.

A black and white photo of a view deep inside a complex landscape inside a huge lava tube. In the immediate foreground is part of a system of metal railings, platforms, and ladders, enabling visitors to safely descend into the cave. To the railing's right is an exposure of solid lava rock that rapidly descend out of sight. The area above the rock is unlit by the hand light, and is pitch black. The rest of the area visible by the lamp light is a circular lit area that occupies much of the middle, and left side of the photo. The system of metal railings and ladders is seen to turn to gain access to a gaping pit in the floor, which a metal stairway drops through. More rock wall can be seen as it descends viewed through the pit. The far side of the pit is a narrow ledge of rock that looks like a bridge between the pit and another circular opening in the cave that reveals blackness beyond.
