This is a long thread already so I'm going to leave it there for now, but feel free to add your own examples of sensory issues with schools below!
If you're interested in school #inclusion in general, please check out this collection of resources:

Soft furnishings and things like plants can do a significant amount to absorb sound waves.
Three separate stalls at #LearningPlacesScotland were focused on specialist sound-absorbing materials.
All of this makes a difference - to everyone in schools, not just the autistic kids.
Disabled people should be at the front of everybody's mind when they're designing spaces.
That absolutely has to include neurodivergent people, and it has to mean TALKING to us. Getting us in the room. Budgeting to pay us for our time.

I was at the #LearningPlacesScotland conference yesterday, talking with two other autistic teachers about how the physical environment of schools makes them inaccessible for so many #autistic kids (and staff), and what to do about it.
It was a good discussion, and I hope it has some impact...
An unplugged power plug on a table
Somewhat ironically, I had to leave the EdTech Scotland/Learning Spaces Scotland event early today, because I could find nowhere to plug my laptop in (and with work I needed to complete). #edtech #LearningPlacesScotland
The final session I attended at #LearningPlacesScotland was an interesting dialogue about education in the era of AI! I was left thinking about a distinction that @lundieeducation.bsky.social made: teaching about AI and teaching with AI. What do our learners need to be responsible digital citizens?
Jenny Gilruth’s Keynote at #LearningPlacesScotland was about ensuring our learning environments are fit for purpose and inclusive for all our learners.
The partnership between Fife College and the Dunfermline Learning Campus was also mentioned.
Chaired the 'Education in the Era of AI' this afternoon this afternoon with @bwclark.bsky.social and @lundieeducation.bsky.social at #LearningPlacesScotland here are a few slides i used to help keep the conversation flowing.
It was fantastic to hear from the Equipped for Learning Team and some learners from Midlothian earlier today at #LearningPlacesScotland! Lots of food for thought! 🧑💻
Had an amazing time speaking at #LearningPlacesScotland earlier today! It was a privilege to share insights on Play Pedagogy and to share the stage with such talented experts. Inspired by the conversations and the energy in the room! #MorePlayPlease #PlayEveryday

Penny Martin setting the scene for the Nature Discovery Map Scotland - when we think of a school is it just the classrooms? Or the outdoor spaces too as locations for learning? How can these provide opportunities for nature connectedness #LearningPlacesScotland
Katie with a pair of red glowing headphones on, grinning at the camera

Headphones on a chair back, with the EdTech Scotland conference stage in the background.
I do like a good silent disco. Though I get the feeling there will be a little less dance today than I'm used to. #LearningPlacesScotland #edtech #edtechScotland
Gillian Penny on the Stage 1 at Learning Places Scotland
Fantastic to be in sunny Glasgow this morning for #LearningPlacesScotland ! Gillian Penny from Apple taking us through the importance of digital literacy in the opening keynote. It's not enough to just hand out devices. And it needs to be technology with learning in mind :)
Man, standing on front of EdTech Scotland stage set-up, holding a name badge saying Jason Miles-Campbell, Director, Scotland & NI, Jisc
Greetings from EdTech Scotland / Learning Places Scotland, at the SEC, Glasgow. I've got a big orange Jisc @jisc.bsky.social badge on, as usual. Always happy to talk education, tech, and how cold it was this morning. #edtechScotland #edtech #LearningPlacesScotland
