The Windmill club was at 97 North Street, now Lovell Park council houses.The club was run by Eugene Lacey with wrestler big Jim ‘Gargantua’ Moran on the door. Apparently Des O’Connor lost a lot of money in a card school there one night. I doubt he argued much about it!

You learn something new every day! Accent Menswear used to be a pub called the Queens Arcade hotel. It opened in 1889 but lost its licence in 1908 due its clientele of prostitues. You could access it via the arcade or the alley next to where the Levi’s shop is today.
