Series Review: Gentleman Jack ★★★★★ Gentleman Jack is a historical lesbian romance set in the 1830s. It is based on the collected diaries of Anne Lister, who wrote extensively about her life and her lesbian relationships. You can read more about this incredible woman here. The series starts in 1830, when Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) returns home to Halifax in Yorkshire, from Hastings. She's brokenhearted because her lover, Vere Hobart (Jodhi May), has left her to marry a man.

Gentleman Jack, which is based on the diaries of Anne Lister, is fantastic! I'd never heard of Anne Lister, but now I want to know more. It also seems that they did a decent job--at least in season 1--of sticking to the facts regarding her romanc.

Movie Review: Desert Hearts ★★★ Desert Hearts is a romantic drama set in 1959 about a woman in her thirties discovering her sexuality. Since the state of Nevada allows hassle free divorces for residents, 35-year-old Vivien Bell (Helen Shaver) moves to Reno to establish residency, which takes six weeks. She rents a room from Frances Parker (Audra Lindley), who is known for helping women looking to leave their husbands.

Movie Review: Bottoms ★★★★ Bottoms is a comedy about two high school lesbians who start a female fight club to get laid. PJ (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri) are unpopular students at Rockbridge Falls High School who have crushes on football cheerleaders, Brittany and Isabel. While leaving a fair before the start of the new school year, they see Isabelle having an argument with her boyfriend, Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead quarterback for the football team.

Movie Review: Drive-Away Dolls ★★★ Drive-Away Dolls is madcap road trip comedy about two women traveling from Philidelphia to Tallahassee. It's Philadelphia, 1999. Santos (Pedro Pascal) is sitting in a booth nervously clutching a briefcase. When he gets up to leave, his waiter follows, then chases him down a dark alley and decapitates him. The film then cuts to Jamie (Margaret Qualley), whose girlfriend dumped her because of her cheating ways.

Movie Review: Dating Amber ★★★★★ Dating Amber is a coming-of-age film set in Ireland in the 1990s. It's about two closeted teens, male and female, who decide to date each other to keep from being harassed at school. Tired of dealing with homophobic insults by her schoolmates, Amber (Lola Petticrew) decides to make friends with Eddie (Fionn O'Shea), another student who is going through a similar treatment.
