This is about 5 centimeters wide of a fallen stick in the grass. The center is covered in a white rim-disc lichen with disc shaped growths that have sort of light yellow-orange centers, kind of like creamsicle color. There’s a dead, brown leaf in the left of the stick, and a combination of deep green liverworts and mosses growing from the right and top sides of the stick. Tiny dew drops hang from the tips of the grass blades in the lower left corner.

The macro photograph shows a gray-green lichen that looks like crumpled, irregular pieces growing on dead wood. Green moss also grows around it and blends in with the lichen. Rising up from the low vegetation are much taller reproductive parts of the lichen; there are four of them, and they look like long tubes with a widened section at the top. They are the same gray-green color. The background behind the photographed wood in the upper third of the photo is blurred and indistinct.
I photographed Cladonia fimbrinata or another similar Cladonia species in the area of a dried-up stream in a floodplain forest.

With a backdrop of the ground covered in brown leaves is a stick adorned with a very pale green leafy- looking lichen.
Lying on a bed of brown pine needles is a stick covered with lichens. Some of the lichen reminds me of a delicate coral growth, with many fine “fingers” spreading out from central spines.
It’s important to find beauty on my morning walks with DixieDog. We had a damp morning in Maine today. #lichen
