What if I struggle with side-effects from taking trial medication? Clinical trials are designed to be as safe as possible for participants but side-effects are always a possibility. Generally there will be steps in place to mitigate these (gradual dose increases, regular check-ins, etc.). Ultimately you can always make the choice to stop taking the trial medication. It is every trial participant’s right to leave a clinical trial at any time - for any reason or none - and this will not affect your future quality of care.

What is metformin? Metformin is a medicine used by tens of millions of people worldwide, mainly for type 2 diabetes. Lab results suggest metformin could also make cancer less likely to occur in people with Li Fraumeni syndrome, although currently this is only a theory. The MILI clinical trial has been set up to test this.
