We suck at doinging it. And even on this trip I brought work. But I am going to try and take a break and enjoy my vacation. #lifeofascientist.
I managed to end my day with the ball in someone else’s court for everything I’m working on, so I get to spend a bit of time leisure reading. 🥰 Yes, I know there are science manuscripts I could be reading… let’s talk about that 5am tomorrow morning. The evening is mine!

Even the tiniest blade of grass, or in this case old dead flower stalk can make a difference. In this case a combination of wind, albedo and probably emitted LW have created small pits in the snow around, and only around, tiny pieces of last year's vegetation. In the background the island of Qeqertarsuaq with its distinctive elongated steeply sloping spine of hills, dusted with snow, lazes away under a blue sky amongst icebergs trapped in the fast ice.
TFW you've spent ages trying to solve a tricky problem and it. just. does. not. work. You take a break, come back, try something new, nope still nothi... Wait! It's there, there it is! That's the data...

That is why we love doing #science and in an […]

While stuck in Ilulissat I have tried to deal with the email backlog (again). But they come in way faster than I can deal with them.
I love the idea of inbox 0 but would literally achieve nothing else if I practiced it, and work would be very boring.
Anyone […]

A slightly misty view over jagged blocks of sea ice and icebergs. The sun is just visible behind a veil of thin clouds, the icebergs are covered in snow and piled haphazardly around
Paper sent to co-authors for final comments. Aiming to submit by Monday. And now it's time to go home.
Have a photo of some iceberg melange (Because that's what I've been working on this evening...)

It was a 14 hour day at the lab today. I was learning a new surgical technique for new experiments coming up. Typically, my husband and I play a game of chess every night before heading to bed, but he was already snoring when I got home.

Sent first paper of writing week back to lead author. Really solid + exciting work on #AtmosphericRivers in #Antarctica with @polarres.bsky.social input.
Now sitting listening to Arvo Part with fake log fire on the TV + reading through the next paper

TFW the grant proposal you agonised over for *months* is rejected, but the one you prepared in 5 days and just squeaked over the line with 6 minutes to spare seems to be going through ...
🤷♀️
