A steep, narrow stone-paved alleyway in Ambatobe, Antananarivo, Madagascar, bordered by weathered concrete walls and descending between residential buildings. Overhead wires crisscross the scene, and the alley features uneven steps with patches of greenery and water drainage. In the distance, the city's hilly landscape is visible, dotted with houses, trees, and a prominent church spire.

My newly-discovered scenic routes through my neighborhood remind me of how much of Antananarivo is pre-car, and still car-free.
