A screenshot of an infographic from an Ellen MacArthur Foundation factsheet (https://content.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/m/1c919f88a238cb51/original/Circular-economy-in-cities-Opportunity-benefit-factsheets-Urban-Mobility-System.pdf). The first column says "Congestion costs 2–5% of global GDP annually in lost time, wasted fuel, and increased cost of doing business". The second column says "As much as 50% of European inner-city land is devoted to roads and parking; but, even in rush hour, cars use only 10% of urban roads". Third column says "On average, European cars are parked 92% of the time and when in use only 1.5 out of 5 seats are occupied". Final column says "In India, electricity to power street lighting and maintenance costs can account for 5–10% of municipal budgets in large cities and up to 20% in smaller cities". These statements each have a link to the evidence not included in this description.
Have been using one for 15 years in Halifax, host one on our driveway after going #CarFree in 2022. For us, living in a @communauto.bsky.social rich neighbourhood, ditching our car was a no brainer once we did the maths. Parked >92% of time, our car was a pricy, inefficient security blanket.
