On All Hallow's Day, the descent to an autumnal Great Coven's Wood, then entry into @wildlifebcn Lower Wood, Weston Colville with some fine Hazel coppice, under one of which King Alfred had burnt the cakes (Daldinia concentrica).

Not this summer, even after the welcome rain of the last few days @wildlifebcn #LowerWood! Weston Green ford but a puddle and the one further down the young Stour, along Brook Lane, completely dry. So where IS the source of the #RiverStour now?? #Cambs
Luckily the giant coppiced Ash at the Beds, Cambs & Northants Wildlife Trust @wildlifebcn #LowerWood #WestonColville seems to retain its health. Less so the handsome ones on the edge of the little wood along Brook Lane where the Hazels are beginning to show autumn colour. #Cambs
