Concept art of two original characters designed specifically for Final Fantasy VII. To the left is Alan Lykófos, an aged professor and Shinra retiree (similar to Bugenhagen) who participates and sometimes even collaborates with Bugenhagen in similar studies, located in Cosmo Canyon. Weary and analytical, but kind. He appears to have a particularly keen interest in Lucrecia, however, and trying to help her and those connected to her as a means of redemption after so many harrowing years under Shinra's thumb. Like many involved, there is still a guilt that clings to him. To the right is Naale Librior, an assistant of the professor's. General handyman, gunman and all around tech guy. Helps "keep the peace" when need be, but more often than not plays the roles of both mechanic and transporter. A flirt; rough around the edges charismatic sort. Rumor has it that his younger days ventured into SOLDIER where, despite the odds, he had found a friend in the professor. Between struggling to make ends meet and having some "sense" talked into him - Alan encouraging him that "there's a better life out there for you, son" - he eventually went rogue along with the professor in search of better things.
A long abandoned work in progress of a comic depicting Lucrecia, Professor Lykófos and Sal, a segment titled "Déjà Vu." The professor is conversing with Sal in regards to "shadows of the past" and his struggling attempts to try to communicate with "Miss Crescent." It is implied, however, that this is not the first time Sal has had this conversation with the professor; a knowing look, realizing more fully the emotional weight of "starting over," how the friends she made now no longer know who she is and how they may come to know one another differently a second time. For further context: The Anomaly draws inspiration from games like Chrono Trigger and Majora's Mask with a narrative involving time travel and hopping timelines. Natural elements found in my own tales involving the Observers, who are capable of traversing some measure of time and space for their observations do a bit of a tango with new concepts Square Enix has begun to implement in this new spin on Final Fantasy VII. Collaborating with an Observer found within Anthology of Anon, Sal is given the chance to experience, again, a sort of Majora's Mask story with the events of Final Fantasy VII - and more! And, also worth mentioning: while I personally am not entirely a fan of how convoluted they've managed to make things thus far with Remake and especially Rebirth, it does remind me affectionately of a fanfic or five that likely exists out there in the series' honor already involving multiple timelines or time travel; for one to view it as Square Enix producing a fanfic of their own narrative and opening your mind to playing with it and producing some crazy fanfic of your own was essentially the end result here!
Another long abandoned work in progress of a comic featuring Sephiroth and Sal. They stand before a particular tree within range of Nibelheim, speaking somewhat casually. This tree actually serves as a conversation point both in and out of metaphor. Yet another old piece that I realize may have some more touching connections with fan theories that play with the core of Final Fantasy VII vs. being a blend of different story ideas with less canonical support from myself. I read a theory once on how Lucrecia could have easily spent many days under this particular tree before and during her pregnancy, a poetic interpretation of this very tree being what could have inspired Sephiroth's name, even, given its roots (heh) in the Sephirot, the ten emanations of God in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. Given that inspiration, I do like to think Sephiroth himself would find himself drawn to this same tree, if given the opportunity to be, throughout scattered moments of his youth and upon returning to Nibelheim. Such instances are never clarified, of course; he'll never know why that tree feels familiar and even special, perhaps.
