*****Book review*****

>Pocket Full of Kryptonite<

Jake (Renegade) Donovan is Amanda Westwood's kryptonite. At the same time, she is his. Their chemistry is electrifying. It's her aversion for anything resembling more that is causing problems. At least, the ones between them.

I love that he was ready to go all in with her two years ago. I may not have liked her reaction, but I understood it. He also didn't handle things well. Now? Now, there's a real chance to clear a path forward. True to form, nothing between these two is easy. Miscommunication is the name of their game.

-- Book quote
'He didn’t want just fun and games. He wanted something more, something I couldn’t give. And when I realized I was falling in too deep and he was getting too close, I took the first chance I could to push him away.'
-- Amanda Westwood

Their relationship from two years ago comes up several times, but I do recommend reading the prior book to better understand what happened, as well as getting more of a feel for the bonds between several of the Redemption crew.

I initially read this close to a decade ago. The characters and story hold up even after all that time. I still love it and will be continuing on.

I borrowed the audio book. The narrator is Lucy Rivers. I do like her and know that with this being a single POV, only one narrator is used, but I do wish Jake had his own voice.

Story: 4 stars
Narration: 4 stars

*****Book review*****

>Benefits to Crossing the Red Line<

My initial review from 2019: >I loved this book from the first page. I truly enjoyed the introduction of the club, the characters, and the hot story. Will be reading more!<

This series has stuck with me for years and is the first thing I think of when someone asks for an MMA recommendation. Revisiting has confirmed that I will continue to suggest it. Not only is it chock full of heat, but it's also a well-written book with characters that are easy to love, like, hate, etc.

-- Book quote
'Gah. My body aches with unfulfilled need. I hope I put fresh batteries in my Rabbit.'
-- Makayla Delaney

Max (Torment) Huntington and Makayla (Mac, Doc) Delaney made me laugh, cry, want to bonk someone, and so much more. The drama going on in their lives and around them kept me invested.

Quick note on triggers: they are definitely there - DV, general violence, self-harm, threats of SA, etc. Please consider if you have any.

I read along with the audio book for my re-read. I like the narrator, Lucy Rivers, for Makayla, but I really wish this was in duet with a male narrator. Also, a few mispronunciations drove me crazy (Sergio, Muay Thai), but it was otherwise a decent listen.

Story: 5 stars
Narration: 3.5 stars

Title: Wood You Be Mine? Lovewell Lumberjacks 1

Author: Daphne Elliot

Performed by: Lucy Rivers & Stephen Borne

*****Book review*****

>Breaking Past Fears<

Newly minted Principal Alice (buttercup) Watson is in way over her head. Not just with Lovewell, Maine, but also with her landlord, Henri Gagnon (Brawny). The two of them are comical and bursting with chemistry. I like how this casual situationship snowballs in short order.

-- Book quote
'As much as I didn’t want to get involved, my protective instincts were already kicking in. I’d have to keep a close eye on my distracting new tenant.'
-- Henri Gagnon

A lot of this is definitely romcom, but some tough issues are tackled. The most notable is foster care and the mistreatment of foster kids Marigold (Goldie) and Tucker Fournier. As I once was one, I know that not all are like this. At the same time, I also know that some are exactly like this or worse. Their journey starts out as utterly heartbreaking. I love where it leads.

This ends with a bit of a suspenseful cliffhanger. The book has an HFN for Alice and Henri, but another storyline continues. There is a bonus epilogue that you should absolutely read to get the HEA that is deserved. There aren't any spoilers for what's to come, just confirmation that the suspenseful part does have a conclusion.

I read along with the audio book. The narrators, Stephen Borne and Lucy Rivers, are fun to listen to. Of course, I really wish this was done in duet, but I usually want that and don't get it often enough. πŸŽ§πŸ’šπŸŽ§
