*****Book review*****

>The Belle to His Beast<

So far, this retelling is my favorite in the series. Jaxon (Beast) Bortsov may be a bad man, but he knows what he wants, even if it's a bride that he has to blackmail her family to get. Awww.... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜˜

-- Book quote
β€œWhy didn’t you call me?” He holds my arm.

β€œWhat for? The two of you are using me for the same damn thing. Aren’t you?” I know I’m out of line but it’s true. β€œWhy would I call you?”

Guilt flashes in his eyes but it’s quickly replaced by that hard look that reminds me he’s the boss. β€œYou call me because you’re mine.”
-- Jaxon Bortsov & Gabriella de Costa

I do like Gabriella de Costa's spunk. She's used to being treated with little regard, so every time she holds her ground, I'm cheering for her. And her chemistry with Jaxon is fantastic!

I read along with the audio book. I continue to enjoy the narrators for this series, Ada Sinclair and Stephen Borne. πŸŽ§πŸ’™πŸŽ§

*****Book review*****

>Beyond Dark Decadence<

From the start, I feel for Chloe Elizabeth Ricci. She made some poor decisions in her early 20s that ultimately shifted her dreams and separated her from her loved ones. Despite all her confusion and mixed emotions, I respect that she dropped everything to do what had to be done when the chips were down.

Cillian O’Ridian, on the other hand, turns into a giant kitten when Chloe is about. I'd laugh if it weren't so freaking hot. OK, so I'm laughing regardless. πŸ˜‚ I love the dichotomy.

-- Book quote
'I’m not known for compassion. Not at all. I’m the kill-first-ask-questions-later kind of guy people fear, but there’s something about this girl.'
-- Cillian O’Ridian

I love the push and pull between them. For Cillian, the internal battle is even more entertaining at times. For a smart guy, he's not all that bright when it comes to matters of the heart. I get when and why his meter broke, but he's still in need of a good biff or two. 😁

-- Book quote
'I went from fear to desire with a kiss that tasted like darkness and death.'
-- Chloe Ricci

As the ending approached, I wanted to be surprised by the twist. It is interesting how it plays out and ties up several loose ends even if I previously figured it out.

I may not know much about heart surgery and organ transplant, but there were some liberties taken that I had to overlook. There may not have been an LVAD to cut to get priority, but to expect that it'll simply happen today or tomorrow seems like an unreasonable promise for a doctor to make. Perhaps I didn't do such a great job of overlooking it. πŸ€”πŸ€· It was the most noticeable error I caught, which in the grand scheme of things didn't impact how much I liked this book, my first from this author.

>Memories in the Corner of Her Mind<

This isn't your everyday kind of reunion for Olivia O’Ridian / Alice and Virgo Antonov. I like how it starts. It's dark and twisty and leaves me with questions about that night and what happened with Petr, and I am also excited for what's to come for this couple.

Virgo has made mistakes. I love that he owns them. Sure, he's measured in revealing them, but I really like that he comes forward and is honest about them. I respect him for that.

-- Book quote
'I was her first and her only. Until I fucked things up and led us to this.'
-- Virgo Antonov

The chemistry between them is really good, but the mystery of what happened a few years prior and how the present ties in is even better. I had my suspicions but seeing it unravel was fantastic!

I borrowed the audio book. The narrators, Ada Sinclair and Stephen Borne, continue to do a good job with these characters and ALL their accents. πŸŽ§πŸ’šπŸŽ§

>A Minx for the Russian God<

I again strayed from my preference of reading a series in order, so this is me circling back to the beginning. I'm glad I did, as this held my attention and had me wanting more of Serenity Bell and Dante Levitsky.

-- Book quote
'The longer he stares, the more my body heats from the hot, sexual wave cascading over me from head to toe.'
 -- Serenity Bell

Sure, I anticipated the twist, but the sizzle and overall storytelling were great. I will be happily continuing the series. For sure!

I read along with the audio book. The narrators, Stephen Borne and Ada Sinclair, are really good narrators. I enjoy listening to them. 😍 🎧🩡🎧

Title: Wood You Be Mine? Lovewell Lumberjacks 1

Author: Daphne Elliot

Performed by: Lucy Rivers & Stephen Borne

*****Book review*****

>Breaking Past Fears<

Newly minted Principal Alice (buttercup) Watson is in way over her head. Not just with Lovewell, Maine, but also with her landlord, Henri Gagnon (Brawny). The two of them are comical and bursting with chemistry. I like how this casual situationship snowballs in short order.

-- Book quote
'As much as I didn’t want to get involved, my protective instincts were already kicking in. I’d have to keep a close eye on my distracting new tenant.'
-- Henri Gagnon

A lot of this is definitely romcom, but some tough issues are tackled. The most notable is foster care and the mistreatment of foster kids Marigold (Goldie) and Tucker Fournier. As I once was one, I know that not all are like this. At the same time, I also know that some are exactly like this or worse. Their journey starts out as utterly heartbreaking. I love where it leads.

This ends with a bit of a suspenseful cliffhanger. The book has an HFN for Alice and Henri, but another storyline continues. There is a bonus epilogue that you should absolutely read to get the HEA that is deserved. There aren't any spoilers for what's to come, just confirmation that the suspenseful part does have a conclusion.

I read along with the audio book. The narrators, Stephen Borne and Lucy Rivers, are fun to listen to. Of course, I really wish this was done in duet, but I usually want that and don't get it often enough. πŸŽ§πŸ’šπŸŽ§

Unraveling Secrets

(Book cover image)

Faith Copeland and Gregory "Greg" Mallory have a lot of history wrapped in heartbreak. This second chance romance may irk me a little here and there, but I didn't want to put it down. Despite why Faith ended their engagement five years earlier, I do admire her courage to change the trajectory of their story.

'I’d been her first, and until the day she’d left, I’d been the only man to have made love to her. It’d been intoxicating to take her, wherever, whenever, thinking, she has only ever been mine.'
-- Greg Mallory

I like that they talk about things, even the uncomfortable topics. It's not always timely, but they get there eventually. Their responses are honest and realistic. And the makeup πŸ†πŸ‘ is hot and worth it. They are hot, sweet, dirty, and fun together.

There are setups for a couple of books in here. At least one of them gets told, and I look forward to it!

I read along with the audio book. The narrators present a wonderful listening experience, I just wish it were duet narration. I adore Auri Alden's and Stephen Borne's performances.
