Started number sets in #mth1w by forgetting everything we know and building a number system coming up with numbers as we need them. Started as a class counting then students went to the boards to discuss when there will be a need for other numbers. They were buzzing #iTeachMath
Thanks @rgrondin.bsky.social for spending time with my classes last week! Students enjoyed learning with Ms G!
I am grateful for your friendship, feedback, and collaboration!

Yesterday, we looked at this graph and were curious about voter turnout in Nunavut. #mth1w
This article provides some information. And context for questioning the conditions for elections in the North.

Is there a place for this in #mth1w?

A pile of discarded slips of paper that students added to once finished with that question
The unusual baker strikes again. The discard pile (along with only three piles for students to get new Qs from) was a good move #MTH1W #ThinkingClassrooms
Students are measuring the height of a stack of white cups. There is another stack of red cups on the desk.

If h=6, V=15, so if h=66, what's V? If r=3, what's V, given that when r=12, V=32 If r=4, V=10, so if V=360, what's r?

Looking at the effect of changing the height or radius of a cylinder in #MTH1W
Today’s #slowrevealgraph was a home run in #MTH1W that was so fun to facilitate and had great classroom discussion. 10/10 keeping this in the “do again” list.

A graph made out of consecutively smaller pieces of Twizzlers candy.
It’s a good day in #MathsToday when you get to explore limits with Twizzlers #MTH1W
A table with positive numbers whose product is 36
A graph representing the relationship between two numbers whose product is 36, but only in quadrant I
#MathsToday
In #MTH1W students found 2 numbers that multiplied to 36. Then a list of 10 which became a table. Then they plotted those points. All around the room, the graphs were only in quadrant I. I told them they were missing half of the graph!
#MTH1W students explored circle properties using pattern tiles in this activity. Lots of great conversations about relationships. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Found this cool little number puzzle site: sumplete.com where you need to make the sum work for rows & columns.
There are 3x3 up to 9x9 puzzles and you can reveal the answer for each. I'll be using these with my #MTH1W classes this week.
Posters on various mathematical topics
Colourful circle geometry art
It's presentation day in #MTH1W today. They presented in random groups of 3 (lowers the anxiety) and submitted their slide shows and a poster. I'm also collecting their circle geometry art.
