Due to DST change, and me yapping a lot about portal-builders, i have to make a double-post for #Marchistics tomorrow, apologies!

All caught up, yay! 😁
I mentioned in one of my other posts today that there was probably at least one worker revolt before, which is why NumenCorp now treats its employees decently well (enough that they won't want to revolt, anyway).
In the current story, it won't be 🧵1/4

My first instinct is yes, people make bootleg numenspecs. But the more I think about this, the more complicated it gets.
There are certainly people who would know how to make them, but selling & using them would be another matter, because NumenCorp/the govt has records of all 🧵1/8
A monthly prompt list for Marchistics, hosted by khonri.com on bluesky, which is a month-long prompt game focused on micro-worldbuilding supply chains! At the bottom it indicates that participants should "Interpret each prompt as suits your needs! Yap! Or don't! Develop a new supply chain or talk about one you've already built. Make friends." The background is a heavily blurred and purple-toned image of a modern shipping vessel docked at night. The prompt list is broken into 8 categories: - Setting up the Basics: 1. Introduction & Goals 2. Final Products 3. Intermediate Goods 4. Raw Materials - Raw Materials: 5. Extraction Methods 6. Workforce 7. Sustainability 8. Conflicts & Disasters - Intermediate Goods: 9. Refinement 10. Trade Secrets 11. Byproducts 12. Direct-to-Consumer Sales - Finished Products: 13. Quality Control 14. Research & Development 15. Economic Impact 16. Export Controls - Distribution: 17. Transportation 18. Stock & Storage 19. Famous Trade Routes 20. Theft, Piracy, Prevention - Customers: 21. Spending Habits 22. Avenues of Purchase 23. Returning, Repairing, Recycling 24. Consumer Awareness - The Bigger Picture: 25. Medium of Exchange 26. Means of Production 27. Safety Incidents & Regulations 28. Black Markets 29. Labor Movements - Wrapping up with some Final Bits: 30. Community Engagement Day 31. Free Space OR Lessons Learned This could cover worldbuilding fictional novel and TTRPG settings (or other categories I'm not thinking of).

Get slaughtered. Attempts to unionize, strike, rebel get purged. Nicefs drop on your friends, and burn down the entire street. Workers are cheap, replaceable, and not worth the trouble. Exposure and public outcry is generally the only hope.

🤔🤔🤔
There have been LOTS of attacks on the mining operations, which have led to greater defensive measures.
Probably some historical worker revolts have led to the City Lords learning to at least give the appearance of treating their workers better/keeping them distracted.🧵1/3
#Marchistics 26
It's all owned by NumenCorp! The only exception is the harvester ships that do the mining, which are owned by a different corp that works in partnership with NumenCorp. Both of those corps are also part of the govt of Arx Lucis. So the corps own the govt/govt owns the corps. 🧵1/3

Alas this is not something I've thought a whole lot about yet 😓 But I think vaguely it's just gonna be a system of credits. People pay for things with their numenspecs; it's pretty much all "digital" (whatever the magic light equivalent of digital is, lol). I'm thinking everyone 🧵
Because of the magical nature of the potions industry, the workers in it are largely fae. The apothecary and reagent farming guilds have been associated with fae rights movements worldwide since their inception.
They're a big reason the Recognition Act passed in the United Republic. #marchistics

The most significant labor movement is happening now actually in 2015 (in story)

The regular people of Arx Lucis generally don't know about the harmful effects of lucium mining on the rest of the world, and a lot probably wouldn't care even if they did. Those are the dark lands where the monster people live, why should they care?
Of course not everyone thinks🧵
#Marchistics 29: The Empire, after all, might have compassion for the peoples living under more repressive regimes, but it would not do at all to see a spate of democracies pop up along its border. (3/3)
#Marchistics 29: The brutal Nivoréan response and ongoing economic decline led to the establishment of the Republic of Birajad and their radical "popular vote" ideology. Fearing the total collapse of their neighbour, the Haamalid Empire swept in and announced the annexation of Nivor. (2/3)
#Marchistics 29: While not directly related to linen farming or sailcloth production, the Birajadi uprising against the Nivoréan Principality eighty years ago started after decades of Nivoréan mismanagement of Biran farms. (1/3)
Gonna attempt to catch up on like a week of #Marchistics! 😅
Day 22 - You can go straight to NumenCorp for your numenspec, but since Arx Lucis is fuckin huge, they also have several stores all around the city. Some specialize just in numenspec installation/repairs, others are for general numentech.

So Eitos is not immune to greed and larceny or smuggling sadly. But no one is dumb enough to do it inside the nation.
Outside though. Exported materials and mundane goods are (1/?)
#Marchistics 28: Occasionally someone might try to pass off a matter-printed knock-off xenograft as Europan-made, particularly when selling to unlicensed gene-modders, but the materials are unique enough that anyone who has experience with the real thing could tell. And legit coralgrafts (1/6)
With regards to #Marchistics labor movements there were two “recently”:
The first big one was 120 years ago:
Serfs became wage labourers. Instead of being in debt for housing, housing is free and the laity pays a tax on their income (if they make enough).

The main labour movements have been in the pits. It’s generally only organised within single mining pits, or at very most, between nearby pits (usually those owned by the same kaamiir or kaamenu).
It works because the entire mining culture is to look out for each other.
#Marchistics
As far as sword making goes? Not really. There were labor movements for other things, but not for swords or other blacksmithing stuff.

O-oh... oh yes, the Greed Wars... *cough*
So, uh, moonbeam silk and the merchants of light weren't the only ones affected. It was essentially a huge labor/social/political/everything movement that restructured Aloutian society as a whole.
The Greed Wars was... *very* violent.

We don’t discuss The Hostilities. No one talks about that anymore. We just pay our union dues, vote in our union elections, and pretend the Feedback Committee has always been part of the government.😅
But on bad days, when the boss is a jerk, we remember.😠

There will be a labor movement as part of the plot and eventual coup of Humans and their allies against the Melipenati Empire. It builds for a while in the background, but really kicks off after Atl takes charge of the rebel forces and of learns the extinction plans for the Humans 1/3

This detail might not persist, but my early draft ideas for the "asalvyr incident" I put my bbs through had the corrupted asalvyr specifically being attracted to infected wounds (like a bad scrape could be detectable) in the living.
Infection could mean death, and death is food!

A major plot point is an overall elf rebellion that started after Santa disappeared.
There’s a large number of magical creatures and Iceland’s Department of the Hidden People has rules about how they must be treated too.
So, Virgil’s got to figure it out.

After Santa’s initial disappearance, the elves tried to sell equipment to purchase a blood supply.
When the reindeer went crazy and started killing, that bought them some time.
Being stuck on a melting polar ice cap limits their success though.

Definitely preliminary idears but good for my notes.
Obviously, the raw-to-intermediates are owned by the natural order of things. The life cycle! Things live, they die, they become worm food (or dragon-bee food in this case).

Due to the nature of the work, illicit chemistry is quite voluntary, as work goes. It isn't something you get into unless you really, really want to.
As a result, the only people that they really need to rise up against are the gods, who banned this research in the first place. 🧵
