The middle part of this arch is hollow (cavetto) moulded and the 'hollow' is continuous around the arch and down the piers. Either side is a roll and keel moulding each of which sits on an engaged shaft

The scalloped capital says C12. The long shaft of the corbel says C13. When you look closely both are as pukka as a pie. Interesting....

Almost since the days this monastery was closed, slighted and robbed of its stone, work has been underway to keep what's left upright. 'Summer' 2024 was no different. South elevation. Heavily scaffolded chancel

Perfect Perpendicular window of the chapel set into the late C13 walls of the tower to the left of the gatehouse. From the masonry It doesn't seem to be a later addition so it's an odd thing to find from this period in an external castle wall Mouse thinks #MasonryMonday

Rather lovely C13 niche set in south wall next to altar rail #StMaryChepstow. The chancel is C19 and so this has been salvaged and reset. It retains residue of a coating #MasonryMonday

Grotesque headstop to the stringer that runs around the north transept of #StMicharlSopley #Hampshire. The stringer is roll moulded with a slight keel. Close inspection suggests that these two elements belong together. Quite a find #MasonryMonday
