Time for one of Mouse's favourite times of the week. It's #Piscina time. Fine C13 pointed trefoil headed with carved bowl #StLawrenceWestbury #Somerset #MasonryMonday

In situ and intact Mouse be bound. Always a lovely find. Mouse only had to move hand sanitizer, candle and screw

Wonderfully elegant C13 masonry #StLawrenceWestbury #Somerset #MasonryMonday

The middle part of this arch is hollow (cavetto) moulded and the 'hollow' is continuous around the arch and down the piers. Either side is a roll and keel moulding each of which sits on an engaged shaft

Single bay of south arcade #StLawrenceWestbury #Somerset. Moulded pointed arch on piers of engaged shafts. Medieval carved head corbels supporting C19 roof timbers. Fine memorial tablets on south elevation #MasonryMonday #MemorialMonday. A 4 point #HeritageAccumulator

The scalloped capital says C12. The long shaft of the corbel says C13. When you look closely both are as pukka as a pie. Interesting....

West tower arch #StLawrenceWestbury #Somerset #MasonryMonday

Try to ignore the startled looking figure peeking over the curtain and focus on the Romanesque (style) two orders of arch; outer on continuous arris responds, inner on corbels. Hood mould to extrados

One of the more peculiar hagioscopes or squints that Mouse has encountered, cut straight through the easternmost pier of the south arcade to view the chancel. You can see vestiges of the clustered shafts #StMatthewWookey #Somerset #MasonryMonday

South wall of south aisle left of porch door (interior) Chancel #StMatthewWookey #Somerset #MasonryMonday #ChurchPiscina

Re-set and damaged. Originally a pointed cinquefoil set in chamfered #Ogee. A third (similar) piscina sits in the south chapel but could not be photographed

Chancel #StMatthewWookey #Somerset #MasonryMonday #ChurchPiscina

A C13 chamfered trefoil piscina with retrofit credence shelf squeezed ignominiously between south and east wall. Reminiscent of the #MedievalLavabo in the #TinternFratery, which undoubtedly took these as a model

North and south 3-bay arcades (detail) #StMatthewWookey #Somerset #MasonryMonday

Wide moulded pointed arches supported by piers of narrow clustered shafts with shaft rings and a curious if not inelegant capital

It'll be lovely when it's finished #StMaryTintern #MasonryMonday

Almost since the days this monastery was closed, slighted and robbed of its stone, work has been underway to keep what's left upright. 'Summer' 2024 was no different. South elevation. Heavily scaffolded chancel

Except that crossing is not allowed as indicated by the copious safety barriers.

North elevation of north aisle and north transept #StMaryTintern #MasonryMonday

The arcade to the nave is long lost on this side, but this does show the mid-C12 Decorated-style 2-light windows, opening out onto the cloister on the other side

Arcade and south aisle #StMaryTintern #MasonryMonday

Arcade of moulded pointed arches. All of this has been heavily rebuilt long after the church fell into disrepair. The piers have been reinforced internally

Perfect Perpendicular window of the chapel set into the late C13 walls of the tower to the left of the gatehouse. From the masonry It doesn't seem to be a later addition so it's an odd thing to find from this period in an external castle wall Mouse thinks #MasonryMonday

Rather lovely C13 niche set in south wall next to altar rail #StMaryChepstow. The chancel is C19 and so this has been salvaged and reset. It retains residue of a coating #MasonryMonday

(Yes. Mouse know the dangly thing is offset from the apex. Yes. It annoy Mouse #ItsNotLinedUp)

#TheBestOfSalisburyToTheSea arcade arches: #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire. With no written reference the arcade arch is a good guide to the age of a church. These C13 double chamfered pointed arches on clustered columns to the north chapel are particularly fine #MasonryMonday

#TheBestOfSalisburyToTheSea piscina: #StMaryEllingham #Hampshire. Mouse is fascinated by piscina and their fate over the turbulent periods of church and state history. This C13 trefoil twin basin piscina is a beautiful example #MasonryMonday

A few tidbits from #StMichaelSopley #Hampshire.

Grotesque headstop to the stringer that runs around the north transept of #StMicharlSopley #Hampshire. The stringer is roll moulded with a slight keel. Close inspection suggests that these two elements belong together. Quite a find #MasonryMonday

A few tidbits from #StMichaelSopley #Hampshire. The north and south aisles of the church clasp the tower. Three bays of particularly fine double chamfered pointed arches on octagonal piers and responds with moulded imposts. Mouse also call this #MasonryMonday
